A Study Of The Temporomandibular Joint Recording Center Concept, Edwin F. Shryock Nov 1972

A Study Of The Temporomandibular Joint Recording Center Concept, Edwin F. Shryock

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

As the science of dentistry advances, more emphasis is being given to the function of the mandible. The recording center concept provides for the service of mandibular analysis, terminal hinge location, and mandibular recordings. This study is concerned with operating a mandibular recording center where patients can be referred for these specific services.

The practicability of a recording center has been determined by this study.

In order to assure accuracy and to reproduce consistent results, it seems necessary that the operators of recording centers be trained specifically for this purpose.

The complete process relies on the accurate location of the …

Physiological Parameters During Perfusion Fixation Of The Rat Central Nervous System For Electron Microscopy, Everet W. Witzel Jun 1972

Physiological Parameters During Perfusion Fixation Of The Rat Central Nervous System For Electron Microscopy, Everet W. Witzel

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

In an attempt to elucidate the problem of extracellular space within the cerebral cortex of the rat, several physiological parameters were analyzed during perfusion fixation with glutaraldehyde and acrolein for electron microscopy. These parameters were electroencephalography, electromyography, electrocardiography, cerebrospinal fluid pressure, impedance of cerebral cortex, perfusion pressure, and flow rate of the perfusate.

The first portion of this investigation dealt with the problem of asphyxiation of tissues during fixation. A substituted blood containing fluorocarbon which was oxygenated served as the means to study this problem. The last portion of this investigation dealt with buffers and molecular size in relationship to …

Selected Factors Related To Ability To Regain Bladder Function Following Indwelling Catheterization, Jongkolnee Padmasiri May 1972

Selected Factors Related To Ability To Regain Bladder Function Following Indwelling Catheterization, Jongkolnee Padmasiri

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

This exploratory retrospective study was designed to evaluate selected factors, including the ability to regain bladder function related to post indwelling urethral catheterization in an acute general hospital population.

The records of 107 patients who met the study criteria became the study population. These patients had three-way urethral catheters, continuous antibacterial irrigation and closed drainage system. Twenty patients died (19 percent) before the catheter was removed. Of the 87 patients who were alive, 37 percent (32 patients) had in-adequate bladder function. Of these 32 patients, no attempt was made to remove the catheter from 15 prior to their hospital discharge. …
