Problem: Many Americans have begun to seek alternative and natural remedies for common medical conditions previously treated by prescription drugs. As highly trained clinical professionals, nurse practitioners (NP) are responsible for adequately educating patients about their clinical disease process and treatment options. Due to limited clinical research surrounding CBD, NPs may lack the proper qualifications and resources to counsel patients on CBD use adequately. The Effects of Hippotherapy on Postural Control in Children with Cerebral Palsy

Study Design: Systematic Review

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize and evaluate the most recently published research focusing on the effects of hippotherapy on postural control in children with cerebral palsy.

Methods and Measures: Two searches of literature were performed, the first in August 2020 and January 2021, using PubMed, Academic Search Ultimate and ScienceDirect databases. The Apiaceae family of plants contains over 3,500 species, many of which are used as food crops: vegetables (carrot, parsnip, celery, etc.), herbs (cilantro, fennel, dill, etc.), and spices (cumin, anise, caraway, etc.). Many spices have been shown to exhibit antimicrobial properties against both bacteria and fungi. We set out to determine if the Apiaceae spice extracts currently used in our lab for anticancer studies exhibit any antimicrobial properties. Chronic diseases can have an enormous burden on not only an individual’s quality of life, but their economic output as well. The challenge is that many patients with a chronic disease are not fully treated despite many different medications and doctor’s appointments. Mindfulness is an extremely beneficial tool that can be used as an adjunctive treatment for different chronic health diseases including anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, and many others.
