Rock Lobster Industry Advisory Committee Report To The Hon Minister For Fisheries., Fisheries Dept. Of Western Australia

Fisheries management papers

To ensure full consultation with members of the fishing industry, the Committee arranged a series of meetings at the main coastal centres after the close of the fishing season. Each meeting followed the same format which allowed matters related to research and management to be discussed. After these meetings the Committee met to formulate its advice to the Minister on the matters raised during the Coastal Tour and from Committee discussions.

Fishing Licences As Security For Loans., Fisheries Department Of Western Australia. Nov 1989

Fishing Licences As Security For Loans., Fisheries Department Of Western Australia.

Fisheries management papers

During mid 1988 the Minister for Fisheries at that time, the Hon Julian Grill, sought the establishment of a committee of advice to examine security arrangements for financial institutions providing funds for fishing licences and fishing boats. The prime objective of the Committee was to examine and report upon the requirements for establishing fishing licences as a form of collateral for loans. The major issue before the Committee arose from licence holders seeding generally the means by which their investment in a fishing licence could be used as security, whereas lending institutions sought to ensure their loans would be adequately …

Soil Conservation Earthworks Design Manual, K J. Bligh Nov 1989

Soil Conservation Earthworks Design Manual, K J. Bligh

All other publications

In view of the great diversity of hydrological conditions encountered in the field, and the relative paucity of information with which to design soil conservation earthworks, it is frequently not possible to quantify all aspects of hydrologic design. It remains for the practising soil conservationist to search for a reasonable solution to a problem which is most appropriate to the situation, location, information and skills. The equations in this Manual provide the best available estimates of flow rates and volumes for carrying out design but it must be recognised that the information has come from a relatively limited data set, …

Foreign Investment In The Rock Lobster Industry. A Policy Statement By Gordan Hill Mla Minister For Fisheries, Fisheries Dept. Of Western Australia Sep 1989

Foreign Investment In The Rock Lobster Industry. A Policy Statement By Gordan Hill Mla Minister For Fisheries, Fisheries Dept. Of Western Australia

Fisheries management papers

Foreign investment in the rock lobster industry become an important issue during 1988 following the purchase of the rock lobster processing establishment INF Pty Ltd by the Japanese company Chungagon. On 24 June 1988 the then Minister for Fisheries, the Hon. Julian Grill, issued a press release setting out that foreign investment in the rock lobster industry would be put under scrutiny. The debate on rock lobster processing, involves not only questions of end-user ownership with the likely concentration on small-sized rock lobsters but also on the location of rock lobster processing establishments along the coast. In September 1988, with …

Winchester Sub-Catchment Management Plan, Vivian T. Read Aug 1989

Winchester Sub-Catchment Management Plan, Vivian T. Read

Soil conservation survey collection

The 590 Ha Winchester sub-catchment has no apparent external drainage. Groundwater levels are rising causing site specific problems. Wind erosion has severely affected some areas. The objective of this report is to provide a sub-catchment management plan that is based on sustainable agricultural systems and a hydrological equilibrium. The recommendations aim to meet this objective in the long term. Recommendations to achieve short term results are considered separately. These measures have relatively high installation and maintenance costs. They should be considered as interim management methods until the recommendations for long-term control become effective (perhaps 3 - 5 years after implementation).

Southern Demersal Gillnet And Longline Fishery., Management Advisory Committee

Fisheries management papers

In its report to the Ministier for Fisheries in November 1986, the Southern Western Australian Shark Working Group recommended the establishment of an Industry/Government Mangement Advisory Committee to provide managememt advice on the fishery to the Minister for Fisheries. The Advisory Committee held its first meeting in Albany on 23 February 1989. After being briefed on the state of shark stocks, the Committee's deliberations fell into three broad categories. In the first category there was sufficient time and information available to make a recommendation to the Minister for Fisheries. In the second category, discussion commenced, but was held over to …

A Review Of The Shark Bay Pearling Industry., D. A. Hancock Apr 1989

A Review Of The Shark Bay Pearling Industry., D. A. Hancock

Fisheries management papers

While there are currently only two pearl culture leases in Shark Bay, two new applications for leases have already been received by the W.A. Fisheries Department. Increased interest is being generated about pearl culture in Shark Bay, which will need to be considered against the background of management plans designed to restrict further entry into other areas, notably the pearly industry of W.A from Exmouth Gulf northwards, and the pearling industry of the Northern Territory. Recent successes with pearl culture in both those areas, and the greatly increased revenues and high lease transfer values realised, must inevitably focus interest on …

Evalution Of Grain Legumes For Wheatbelt Rotations In Western Australia 1986 -1987, G H. Walton Apr 1989

Evalution Of Grain Legumes For Wheatbelt Rotations In Western Australia 1986 -1987, G H. Walton

Division of Plant Research : Technical Report Series

Conclusions about the geographic and climatic limitations to the economic production of some pulse species in Western Australia cannot be too definite after only two years of gathering data. The yield results confirm the superior adaptation of field pea and narrow-leaf lupin over the faba bean, chickpea, narbonne bean and lentil. In 1987, a relationship was found within specific crop cultivars / accessions, between seed yield and the spring (September + October) rainfall. It is expected that soil type will influence the yield response through variations in moisture retention capacity, fertility and root penetration. Any relationship between yield and environmental …

Design And Statistical Analysis Of Plant Protection Experiment, J F. Wallace Mar 1989

Design And Statistical Analysis Of Plant Protection Experiment, J F. Wallace

All other publications

An Australian co-operation with the national agricultural research project Thailand.

This short course is intended to cover aspects of experimental design, sampling and statistical analysis for researchers in Entomology and Plant Pathology.

The basic principles of experimental design are the same for plant protection research as they are in other areas of research. Problems in plant protection arise from the variation of the data, the complexity of the systems and interactions with environmental factors. In many cases, standard designs are quite adequate.

A Report On Marron Fishing In Western Australia., Doug Wenn Feb 1989

A Report On Marron Fishing In Western Australia., Doug Wenn

Fisheries management papers

The marroning experience is one enjoyed by many Western Australians. A rapid increase in fishing effort evidenced by the increase in number of recreational fishing licences issued, combined with low rainfall in the last few years resulted in a dramatic reduction of marron catch rates during 1986/87. In view of the state of marron stocks, the Minister for Fisheries considered it appropriate to close the 1987/88 marron season.

Examination And Development Of An Essential Oil Industry In The Ord River Irrigation Area Of North Western Australia, Jean M.V. Bonnardeaux

Research Reports

The project aimed at establishing an essential oil industry in the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA). This industry is particularly suited to the ORIA where transport costs often prohibit the development of some agricultural products. The oils are concentrated and highly valuable. In addition, the ORIA with its abundant water and high temperatures presents a unique opportunity to grow a wide range of crops for the production of essential oils used by the food, medicinal and perfume industries. Australia has therefore an opportunity to initiate a new industry capable of replacing imports and gaining access to world markets representing a …

Rock Lobster Industry Advisory Committee Reported To The Minister For Fisheries., Rock Lobster Industry Advisory Committee Jan 1989

Rock Lobster Industry Advisory Committee Reported To The Minister For Fisheries., Rock Lobster Industry Advisory Committee

Fisheries management papers

The total catch of about 12.1 million kilograms for the 1987/88 season, based on processor returns, was an increase of 44% on the 1986/87 season. This very high catch, the third highest on record, resulted from an above average perulus settlement in 1983/84 and a "flow-on" of fast growing animals stemming from the expected high recruitment in 1988/990 caught as "reds" in 1987/88. The Committee has identified five major elements related to the state of the rock lobster fishery upon which management advice is considered. a) The undersize fraction of the population. b) The "whites" which provide a significant proportion …
