Evaluation Of Liquid-Applied Nitrogen Fertilizers On Kentucky Bluegrass Turf, B. G. Spangenberg, T. W. Fermanian, David J. Wehner Nov 1986

Evaluation Of Liquid-Applied Nitrogen Fertilizers On Kentucky Bluegrass Turf, B. G. Spangenberg, T. W. Fermanian, David J. Wehner

Office of the Dean (CAFES) Scholarship

Solution and suspension N sources have been developed as substitutes for urea in spray solutions used by lawn-care professionals. A field study was conducted to evaluate the response of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) growing on a Catlin silt loam (Typic Argiudoll), to applications of the new solution and suspension N sources, alone or combined with urea, by comparison to turf response from application of the traditional fertilizer materials ammonium nitrate (AN), Nitroform (ureaform), sulfur-coated urea (SCU), ammonium sulfate (AS), granular urea, spray-applied urea (US), and urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) solution. Also, urea and AS treated with dicyandiamide (DCD) were …

Relative Toxicities Of Inorganic Aluminum Complexes To Barley, R. S. Cameron, G. S.P. Ritchie, A. D. Robson Jan 1986

Relative Toxicities Of Inorganic Aluminum Complexes To Barley, R. S. Cameron, G. S.P. Ritchie, A. D. Robson

Food Science and Nutrition

The inorganic forms of Al in the soil solution that decrease plant growth in acid soils have not been clearly identified. Therefore, we examined the effects of Al and its complexes with F- and SO42- on the root elongation of barley (Hordeum vulgare) in nutrient solutions containing 3333 μmol Ca L-1 and 6 μmol B L-1 at pH 4.5. The anions were chosen because of their presence in the soil solution at levels sufficient to complex Al. The toxicity of 0 to 100 μmol Al L-1 was studied in the presence of …

Nonfat Dairy Coffee Whitener Made From Ultrafiltered Skimmilk Retentates, Rafael Jiménez-Flores, Frank V. Kosikowski Jan 1986

Nonfat Dairy Coffee Whitener Made From Ultrafiltered Skimmilk Retentates, Rafael Jiménez-Flores, Frank V. Kosikowski

Dairy Science

Retentates of different protein concentrations obtained by ultrafiltration of skimmilk were freeze-dried and evaluated as nonfat dairy coffee whiteners. Blended in hot coffee the retentate whiteners containing added riboflavin gave a pH of 6.3-6.55, coffee whitening capacity comparable to a commercial nondairy coffee creamer, and acceptable dispersibility. The retentate nondairy whitener with optimum qualities contained 56% total protein, 0.5% fat, 31.0% carbohydrates, 1.92% calcium, and 27 mg sodium/100g.

Synopsis Of The Florida Species Of Pectis (Asteraceae), David J. Keil Jan 1986

Synopsis Of The Florida Species Of Pectis (Asteraceae), David J. Keil

Biological Sciences

A key, descriptions, revised nomenclature, range statements and maps ate presented for the species of Pectis known to occur in Florida. A new combination, Peetis glaucescens, is published for the plant formerly known as P. leptocephala. A naturally occurring triploid interspecific hybrid, Peetis X floridana (P. glallcescens X P. prostrata), is described and illustrated.
