Integrative Taxonomy, A New Tool For Fisheries Conservation, Adela Roa-Varon, Eric J. Hilton

Presentations

Species delimitation is becoming increasingly objective and integrative. Sequence capture approaches allow collection of 1000s of loci for 100s of individuals. New approaches address the computational challenges of large datasets and offer potential for genome-wide sampling of variation at different evolutionary scales. These new approaches also allow integration of genetic and non-genetic data in a unified framework. Despite these advances, few studies have attempted to combine genetic and morphological data for delimiting species. Hakes (Merluccius spp.) are an ideal group for an empirical test of the power and applicability of these new methods because they are morphologically conserved and …

First Record Of The Genus Diarthrodella Klie, 1949 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Paramesochridae) From The Mediterranean Sea, With Description Of A New Species From Turkey, Serdar Sönmez, Suphan Karaytuğ, Serdar Sak Jan 2015

First Record Of The Genus Diarthrodella Klie, 1949 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Paramesochridae) From The Mediterranean Sea, With Description Of A New Species From Turkey, Serdar Sönmez, Suphan Karaytuğ, Serdar Sak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Both sexes of Diarthrodella ergeneae sp. nov. (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Paramesochridae), which were collected from the intertidal zone of Kurtpınarı Beach along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, are described in detail. The new species is morphologically most similar to D. convexa Kunz, 1981; D. secunda secunda Kunz, 1954; and D. lancifera Kunz, 1981 according to the setal formula of the swimming legs, but D. ergeneae sp. nov. can easily be differentiated from D. convexa by the ratio of P1 exopod/enp-1, by the lack of an inner seta on P2 enp-2, and by the shape and armature of P5; from D. secunda …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Abrolophus balkanicus sp. Nov. İs described and illustrated from larvae collected in Montenegro. Abrolophus stanislavae (Haitlinger) and A. Wratislaviensis (Haitlinger) are redescribed. New metric data for A. Podorasensis (Haitlinger) are given. A. Podorasensis is new to the fauna of Montenegro and A. Stanislavae is new to the fauna of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Taxonomic Study Of Subfamily Scymninae (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)With One New Record From Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, Muhammad Ashfaque, Farman Ullah, Muhammad Ather Rafi, Falak Naz Jan 2015

Taxonomic Study Of Subfamily Scymninae (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)With One New Record From Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, Muhammad Ashfaque, Farman Ullah, Muhammad Ather Rafi, Falak Naz

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The fauna of the subfamily Scymninae (Coccinellidae: Coleoptera) of Gilgit-Baltistan was explored and studied. This study confirmed the occurrence of 4 species in 2 genera of Scymninae. These include 2 species in genus Scymnus (S. Posticalis Sicard, 1913 and S. Nubilus Mulstant, 1850), and 2 species in genus Stethorus (Stethorus gilvifrons (Mulstant, 1850) and S. Pauperculus (Weise, 1895)). Among these 4 species, S. Posticalis Sicard is reported here as a new record from the study area. A description of each species is given, along with color plates of adult specimens and genitalia. Remarks pertaining to taxonomic discussion, history, taxon status, …

Additional Evidence And New Records Of The Genus Bracon Fabricius,1804 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) In Southern Iran, Ali Ameri, Ali Asghar Talebi, Ehsan Rakhshani, Ahmet Beyarslan, Karim Kamali Jan 2015

Additional Evidence And New Records Of The Genus Bracon Fabricius,1804 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) In Southern Iran, Ali Ameri, Ali Asghar Talebi, Ehsan Rakhshani, Ahmet Beyarslan, Karim Kamali

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The present contribution is based on the genus Bracon Fabricius, 1804 collected from the southern part of Iran during 2010-2013. A total of 10 species belonging to 6 subgenera were collected and identified, of which 2 subgenera (Ophthalmobracon Tobias, 1957, and Osculobracon) and 6 species are recorded for the first time from Iran. The newly recorded species from Iran are as follows: Bracon (Glabrobracon) ahngeri Telenga, 1936; Bracon (Habrobracon) didemie (Beyarslan, 2002); Bracon (Ophthalmobracon) ophthalmicus Telenga, 1933; Bracon (Osculobracon) erzurumiensis Beyarslan, 2002; Bracon (Osculobracon) osculator Nees 1811; and Bracon (Glabrobracon) obscurator Nees, 1811. Geographical distributions of all species and diagnostic …
