Sustainability Practices In Aquaculture: Using Algae Turf Scrubber Biomass To Raise Black Soldier Flies As An Alternative Feed In Blue Tilapia, Oreochromis Aureus, Culture, Michelle C. Lowery
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since the 1980s, non-algal aquaculture has grown to encompass 49% of all seafood production in response to a growing human population and increased seafood demand (FAO, 2022). Hurdles exist to aquaculture sustainability, including dependence on wild sourced fishmeal (FM) and the impacts wastewater discharge. It takes 4-5 tons of wild forage fish to produce one ton of dry FM (Miles and Chapman, 2006) and as aquaculture is primarily conducted in earthen ponds and public open water bodies (FAO, 2022), finfish culture can have a high impact on the surrounding environment by discharging excess nutrients. This study used algae turf scrubber …

Fish meal levels of diets were balanced as 30% and 45%, and 10 test diets with average 34% (first five diets) and 41% (last five diets) protein and about 3500 kcal/kg metabolic energy were made by replacing 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% slaughterhouse byprolucts into these categories of fish meal. As a control feed, a commercial feed with 55% protein (min.) and 2900 kcal ME/kg was used. Rainbow …
A Manual For Hog Raisers, W. J. Loeffel
A Manual For Hog Raisers, W. J. Loeffel
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
Hogs are one of Nebraska's principal sources of agricultural income. The popularity of the pig is doubtless due largely to his efficiency as a meat producer. He uses less feed to make a given gain than either the steer or the sheep. On being slaughtered, the pig dresses out a higher percentage of meat than either of the other two meat animals. Since pork is generally fatter than beef or lamb, it has a higher energy value. Pork lends itself to curing processes and, as cured meat and lard, occupies an important place in the world's commerce. Processing aids in …
