Deportations For Drug Convictions In The United States And The European Union: Creating A More Compassionate Approach Toward Drug Convictions In The Immigration Law, Megan Smith

San Diego International Law Journal

This Comment begins by examining and comparing the legal framework for deportation and other immigration consequences for convictions of drug offenses in the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom. This Comment then looks at the harsh effects of current immigration policy on individuals and marginalized communities. Finally, this Comment argues that immigration law should be reformed to adopt a more humanitarian approach toward non-citizens convicted of drug offenses. Deportation and other harsh immigration consequences for drug offenses levy disproportionately severe punishments toward vulnerable minority immigrant communities, exposing them to consequences much harsher than non-immigrants would face for …

Note: Regulating Artificial Intelligence: A Call For A United States Artificial Intelligence Agency, Noah John Kahekili Rosenberg

Notre Dame Journal on Emerging Technologies

this Note draws upon two examples of emerging AI technologies that demonstrate the need for federal regulation: autonomous vehicles (i.e., self-driving cars) and algorithm-based hiring software. Part I illustrates the public safety concerns associated with AI technologies by outlining the inadequacy of existing laws and regulations on autonomous vehicles. Part II addresses the shortcomings of current regulations on algorithm-based hiring software and the issue of discrimination and inherent bias in AI. Part III recommends the creation of a new federal agency to guide AI regulation and enforcement.

This study deals with the constitutional oversight over the legislative acts, which are issued by the executive authority pursuant to the Jordanian Constitution. The study will shed the light on the nature of legal rules enacted by the Cabinet, with the approval of the King, and what extent they are subject to oversight by the Constitutional court. The aim of the study was to identify the procedural and objective legal principles specific to the deportation of foreigners that need to be considered within the legal framework of deportation. The study relied on a descriptive analytical approach, which involved observing, analyzing, and highlighting the elements of the subject. It concluded that the purpose of deporting foreigners is the state's right to expel non-citizens from its territory for reasons related to its internal or external security and in accordance with applicable laws. For most people, robocalls are nothing more than an annoying side-effect of owning a cell phone today. But a successful robocall scheme is still capable of wreaking financial and psychological havoc on its victims. Senior citizens and cognitively impaired individuals are often targeted by fraudulent phone calls or texts because they may have trouble understanding how to identify and protect themselves from robocall abuse.
