Sport is no longer confined to proverb like “all work no play makes Jack a dull boy” rather it’s a tool to extend international diplomacy, showcasing economic might and maintain youth culture in the society. Common Wealth Games 2010 put India in the same League of Nations capable of organizing mega sporting events showcasing their economic muscle power. No doubt CWG has made the billion populations proud after the spectacular closing event. But consider this: The amount spent games related infrastructure is whooping Rs 55,398 crore of which only Rs 638 crore was spent for training sportspersons. Of the 41 …

Collaborative Copyright--Or Copyright Is Not Just A Library Issue, Susanne Clement, Jennifer Duncan, Betty Rozum
Collaborative Copyright--Or Copyright Is Not Just A Library Issue, Susanne Clement, Jennifer Duncan, Betty Rozum
Library Faculty & Staff Presentations
Copyright law does not change often; the technology that allows us to use copyrighted works changes all the time. Faculty often assume fair use covers all use of copyrighted material in their classes (both face to face and online) and they become confused and frustrated when they learn of limitations in the electronic environment. Students rarely think about copyright; they are generally unaware of how their actions might infringe the rights of copyright holders or that they themselves might hold these rights in their own works. Librarians have traditionally had some copyright knowledge – after all copyright notices have been …

2020 Foresight: Technology In Legal Education After The Reboot, Debbie Ginsberg, Emily Barney, Sejal Vaishnev
Presentations
Presentation from the American Association of Law Libraries 103rd Annual Meeting and Conference.
In 1990, not many people understood the impact that the Internet, email, and PowerPoint would have on our law schools by 2000. In 2000, who knew that in 2010 law schools would need to create Facebook pages, LinkedIn groups, and Twitter feeds? In this panel, Debbie Ginsberg, Emily Barney, and Sejal Vaishnev discuss three visions of law school technology in 2020: in the classroom, on the web, and in our technology administration centers. What technologies are likely to become vital tools and which will disappear? More importantly, …

Authentic Authorship, Alina Ng
Authentic Authorship, Alina Ng

Copyright laws protect original works of authorship, but ownership rights in literary and artistic works need not necessarily reside with the author or creator of the work. By statutory provision, the copyright owner, and not the author, possesses the exclusive rights to control the reproduction, distribution, public performances, and the making of derivatives. It is interesting to note the apparent disconnect between the exclusive rights protecting the subject matter of authorship and the author, as the creator, of a work of authorship. This disconnect is, arguably, attributable to the influence of law and economics, and American legal realism, on copyright …

The points discussed in the session are related to United Nations peacekeeping in the twenty-first century and the international police education for the rule of law. It is noted that 100 countries contribute police officers to the United Nations, and that 49 of those countries contribute 25 or fewer officers. There is a gender imbalance, with only 7.75 % of forces being made up of women. In the past, UN policing priorities were: monitoring to verify police performance and impartiality, observing to ascertain police strengths and weaknesses and reporting to document police infractions. The UN Peacekeeping Mission Statement aims to …

The New Millennium And Online Counseling: Ecological Practice, Concerns And Discussion, Oscar T. Mcknight
Oscar T McKnight Ph.D.
For counselors, the ecosystem is vast and encompassing; and professionals must understand the client in both context and time. This in and of itself is a daunting task; now, enter the New Millennium and on-line counseling. The Web is the poster child of interconnectivedness and interdependence of systems; however, is the Web bringing us closer or further apart? The Web is transforming society and potentially the ecological context of counseling. A review is necessary.

The law of nuisance requires property law as a legal institution to balance and manage the utility of competing land use. When an intentional invasion of land creates an unreasonable and substantial interference with the use of another person’s land, the nuisance may be enjoined by law. This enquiry requires a consideration of whether the social utility of the tort-feasor’s conduct outweighs its social costs, and provides the courts with a legal strategy to manage conflicting resource uses. Copyright jurisprudence similarly requires management of society’s use of information as a resource for creativity and progress. The legal strategy employed to …
