Abridgment of the law review article "n guilty men," 146 U. Pa. L. Rev. 173 (1997).
Taxation Of Beards, Erik M. Jensen
Taxation Of Beards, Erik M. Jensen
Faculty Publications
This article makes a compelling case that the United States could learn from the imaginative tax policy-maker Peter the Great and institute a tax on beards. Such a tax could raise a little revenue, decrease scruffiness, and provide a new subject for cutting-edge law review notes.
Note: This a description of the paper and not the actual abstract.
Tough On Scholarship, Erik M. Jensen
Tough On Scholarship, Erik M. Jensen
Faculty Publications
This series of three articles (that's why it's a trilogy, duh-h-h) chronicles the legal-academic career of one S. Breckinridge Tushingham ("Breck" for short). As the trilogy unfolds, Breck works his way up (or maybe it's down) from his first academic position to an established professorship to dean of the South Soybean (Soso) State University law school. In the process of recording his professional history, and thus memorializing it for the ages, Breck provides (probably defamatory) insights into the American legal academy.
The Unwritten Article, Erik M. Jensen
The Unwritten Article, Erik M. Jensen

A law review article without footnotes? Unthinkable. But what about an article with only footnotes - and footnotes to footnotes? Thinkable. And here it is.
Performance Scholarship And The Internal Revenue Code, Erik M. Jensen
Performance Scholarship And The Internal Revenue Code, Erik M. Jensen
Faculty Publications
If we can have performance art-and we can-why not performance scholarship? This commentary suggests an entirely new scholarly emphasis for legal academics. (OK, it's not entirely new, but it's new for those of us not teaching trial practice.)

The Federal Income Tax Consequences Of The Bobble Supreme Phenomenon, Leandra Lederman
The Federal Income Tax Consequences Of The Bobble Supreme Phenomenon, Leandra Lederman
Articles by Maurer Faculty
Since 2003, the Green Bag Journal has been commissioning and distributing limited edition bobblehead likenesses of the Justices of the United States Supreme Court. Demand for the bobble Supremes has not been limited to existing recipients, and bobble longing has inspired purchases and even poetry. Given the importance of the bobble Supreme phenomenon to the national economy, the time has come for guidance on the tax consequences of their receipt, ownership, and transfer. Fortunately, draft proposed regulations on the federal income tax treatment of bobble Supremes recently surfaced. Although the regulations have not and never will be officially sanctioned (and, …
Harry Potter And The Law, Benjamin H. Barton
Harry Potter And The Law, Benjamin H. Barton
Scholarly Works
The magnitude of the Harry Potter phenomenon alone would make it worthy of consideration; the fact that it is children's literature, and thus may play a significant part in forming a future generation's attitudes toward law and legal institutions, makes it even more so. The various contributions to this article explore various aspects of law and culture as presented in or viewed through the Harry Potter stories. The contributions of James Charles Smith and Danaya Wright address the depiction of families in the narratives and the limited role and development of family law. Benjamin H. Barton's contribution considers the failings …
