Prior to the United State Supreme Court’s decision in PGA Tour, Inc. v. Martin, fans could rest comfortably knowing that their games would stay true to the traditions they hold dear. After the decision, however, it appears that no rule, no matter how well established, is safe from a judicial determination that the rule is not fundamental and, thus, may be altered to accommodate individuals with disabilities. In PGA Tour, the Supreme Court forever changed when a proposed modification in competitive sports will be denied based on the fundamental alteration defense under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. …

Title IX has, in this day, become a topic that is both controversial and confusing. Nearly anyone in the United States today that is moderately well informed is able to relate something about Title IX and its effects. In response to an inquiry of the nature of Title IX, some would answer that Title lX is the law that requires colleges to have an equal number of athletics teams for men and women. Another person might answer that Title IX is a law that has promoted women's sports to new heights, culminating in the American victory at the Women's World …

The Challenge Facing Parents And Coaches In Youth Sports: Assuring Children Fun And Equal Opportunity, Douglas E. Abrams

Youth sports today brings both good and bad news. The good news is that organized sports programs enhance the vitality of communities large and small because twenty-five to thirty million children, nearly half of all American youngsters, join at least one program in any given year. At some time during their childhood and adolescence, nearly all children have some experience with organized sports. Outside the home and schools, no other activity reaches so many children from coast to coast.
