To Protect The Shield: Combatting Domestic Violence In The Nfl, Helen A. Drew

After the most tumultuous months in the history of the NFL, Helen A. Drew analyzes the string of disciplinary issues that plagued the sport, including the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson incidents, among others. Drew tracks the timeline of negative events in 2014, then proceeds to discuss NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's history regarding player discipline. The Article concludes by discussing the NFL's revised personal conduct policy and suggesting improvements to the NFL's internal operations in an effort to strengthen the NFL community and brand.

In 1997, an Ohio court terminated Peggy Fugate’s parental rights to her sixyear-old daughter, Selina. At the time, Ms. Fugate, an incarcerated drug abuser, did not fight the order, believing her daughter would be adopted into a clean, stable home.1 However, Selina was never adopted. For the next seven years, Selina had trouble with the police and ran away from her foster home numerous times. While Selina’s life was going downhill in many respects, her mother was rehabilitating. The article focuses on the equal management laws in the community property reform for the well-being and future prosperity of the family. Domestic violence kills thousands of American women every year. In 2013, one of them was my client. My law school clinic represented a woman divorcing her abusive husband after twenty years of marriage.
