The solution to most environmental problems requires community participation. The levels and extent of this participation varies with the problem in question, which in turn, is influenced by both national concerns and international obligations. This presentation will focus on biodiversity and genetic resources within the Nigerian Environmental terrain and other international jurisdictions. Within national jurisdiction, there is no legal gap, as coastal states enjoy jurisdiction and sovereign rights for the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources.
