Our Administrative System Of Criminal Justice, Gerard E. Lynch Mar 2015

Our Administrative System Of Criminal Justice, Gerard E. Lynch

Fordham Law Review

To commemorate our founding in 1914, the Board of Editors has selected six influential pieces published by the Law Review over the past 100 years and will republish one piece in each issue.

The fourth piece selected by the Board is Our Administrative System of Criminal Justice, an article written by Gerard E. Lynch that is among the most cited works in the Law Review’s history. This article illustrates how the practice of plea bargaining blurs the boundaries between adversarial and inquisitorial criminal justice systems.

Judge Lynch now sits on the Second Circuit having eventually succeeded the late …

Remembrance, Jennifer L. Chapman Jan 2012

Remembrance, Jennifer L. Chapman

Georgia Law Review

I never had Professor Dupre in class. In fact, I did not meet her
until the summer before my third year of law school. I was the
new Editor in Chief, and she had just been appointed as the
faculty advisor for the Georgia Law Review. Having heard about
Professor Dupre's classes, I was pretty sure I had walked into the
wrong office when I met the funny, cordial, and delightful woman
sitting behind the desk. This was the intimidating professor who
struck fear in the hearts of innumerable students? Impossible-
she was too nice. Professor Dupre and I continued …

Remembrance, Thomas A. Eaton

Georgia Law Review

I was most fortunate to have known Anne Dupre in a variety of
settings. I first met Anne when she was a 1L student in my Torts
class. We remained in touch during her two clerkships and a stint
with a Washington, D.C. law firm. When Anne decided to become
a law professor, I helped recruit her to our faculty. We both
taught first year courses, often in the same section. Anne became
one of my closest friends and colleagues. As I reflect on our
relationship that covers many decades one theme sticks out: Anne
took things seriously. She walked …

Remembrance, Rebecca H. White

Georgia Law Review

My thanks to the Georgia Law Review for dedicating this
Volume to my former colleague and close friend, Professor Anne
Dupre.
In her Dedication and Remembrance in the prior issue, Hillary
Miller, the Review's Senior Managing Editor, described Professor
Dupre as a person who "lived a passionate life." Passionate indeed
is the word that comes to mind when remembering Anne Dupre.

Dedication & Remembrance, Hillary C. Miller

Georgia Law Review

Professor Anne Proffitt Dupre passed away on June 22, 2011,
following a hard-fought battle with cancer. She attended law
school at the University of Georgia where she graduated first in
her class in 1988 and served as the editor in chief of the Georgia
Law Review. She clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry A.
Blackmun following a clerkship with Judge J.L. Edmondson of the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. In 1994, she returned
to Georgia Law and joined the faculty as a professor specializing in
education law and contract law. Prior to her passing, Professor
Dupre …
