The contents were created by analysing closed legal case files of 15 immigrant women living in Ontario who experienced domestic violence. The comprehensive case studies that emerged from this research present domestic violence experienced by immigrant women in all its complexity, highlighting their unique vulnerability at the intersections of race, gender and immigration status. ADVANCE Reports

Experiences with UNM’s parental leave policy C215 have been evaluated using the ADVANCE 2018 Main Campus Faculty Climate Survey, a series of junior faculty interviews, and concerns brought to the ADVANCE leadership. Key findings are:

• Women and STEM faculty are more hesitant to use family-leave policies, and perceive greater disadvantage in using them than men and non-STEM faculty
• Sharing of information about, and implementation of, parental leave varies significantly between units
• The attitude of the department chair and senior faculty strongly influence the experience of faculty who use parental leave
• Appropriately implemented, the parental leave policy contributes to faculty recruitment …

This collection includes three different albums. Two of them are bound in traditional Japanese binding with rice paper; the other may have been constructed to imitate the Japanese bound ones. These albums include Emma Guffey’s travels, from traveling around Japan and returning home periodically. They also include photographs of her time living in Japan. The photographs in this album include many small panorama photographs of nature and architecture, and there is a possibility that these albums include a few early colored photographs.

Why are there so few women on the European Union’s highest court, the European Court of Justice (ECJ)? Answering this question is fundamental to understanding how justices to the ECJ are appointed, how they represent Europeans in general and women in particular. In our article, recently published in the journal Politics, Groups and Identities, we find that pre-nomination career experience is associate with gender imbalances in the ECJ. Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher (1924-1995) applied to the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1946. Her application was denied, and in Sipuel v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Oklahoma had to provide her with the same opportunities for a legal education as it provided other citizens. Rather than admit her to OU, the state established a law school specifically for her. This is a modern account of the trial of Anne Hutchinson. Hutchinson was a midwife and healer, as well as a spiritual advisor in the Boston colony. She became embroiled in the Antinomian controversy, a religious schism that threatened to tear the colony apart. Hutchinson was arrested and charged with "transducing the ministers" and heresy. She was convicted and her family was banished from the colony in 1638. She and six members of her family were killed during Kieft's War several years later. This is one of many books printed by the prolific Elizabeth Lynch (neé Watts). She was first married to the bookseller, stationer, printer, and circulating library keeper Richard Watts. He was bookseller to the Courts of Law and printed mainly law books, with a shop in Skinner-Row in Dublin. Elizabeth took over his business after his death in 1762. Four years later, she married Reverend Stewart Lynch, who was also a bookseller. Elizabeth continued to operate her business until her death in 1794, frequently collaborating with other printers including Sarah Cotter, whose work is also featured in this exhibit.
