Legal Writing Handbook For Clinical Students, Nan Haynes
Legal Writing Handbook For Clinical Students, Nan Haynes
Books
This handbook is for upper-level students enrolled in a clinic, who are expected to draft legal memorandums, briefs, client letters, and pleadings with minimal supervision. Each chapter focuses on a single writing skill. The exercises and examples consistently and cogently employ the techniques and devices advocated in the book.
Clinical students learn by doing. Still, their legal writing experience is limited, so guiding them through written assignments is challenging. They simultaneously need specific feedback on legal writing from their professors, and the opportunity to do as much as possible on their own. I wrote this handbook with that challenge in …
Unlocking The Potential Of Private-School Choice: Avoiding And Overcoming Obstacles To Successful Implementation, Nicole Stelle Garnett
Unlocking The Potential Of Private-School Choice: Avoiding And Overcoming Obstacles To Successful Implementation, Nicole Stelle Garnett
Books
The parental-choice movement has secured a number of important victories in recent years. There are now 65 private-school-choice programs in the U.S., serving approximately 700,000 students, including new universal education savings account programs in Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Utah, and West Virginia. Despite this progress, however, existing private-school-choice programs have, in some ways, fallen short of their transformational potential. The number of students served remains stagnant and below capacity in many states, faith-based (and especially Catholic) schools continue to close despite new eligibility for public funds, most funds are used to fill seats in existing schools and rather than driving the …

Feedback Loops: Feedback Fundamentals, Patrick Barry
Books
Learning how to give and receive feedback is fundamental to the development of every student and professional. Yet few of us are ever taught anything like “feedback skills.”
This book, which is the first in the Feedback Loops series, is designed to change that. Here is what students who have taken the University of Michigan Law School course on which the series is based have said about it:
“One of the most memorable and useful classes I have taken in law school!”
“Excellent, full stop.”
“This class was always a fun highlight of my week.”

Editing And Advocacy, Patrick Barry
Editing And Advocacy, Patrick Barry
Books
Good editors don’t just see the sentence that was written. They see the sentence that might have been written. They know how to spot words that shouldn’t be included and summon up ones that haven’t yet appeared. Their value comes not just from preventing mistakes but from discovering new ways to improve a piece of writing’s style, structure, and overall impact.
This book— which is based on a popular course taught at the University of Chicago Law School, the University of Michigan Law School, and the UCLA School of Law— is designed to help you become one of those editors. …

While Waiting For Rain: Community, Economy, And Law In A Time Of Change, John Henry Schlegel
While Waiting For Rain: Community, Economy, And Law In A Time Of Change, John Henry Schlegel
Books
What might a sensible community choose to do if its economy has fallen apart and becoming a ghost town is not an acceptable option? Unfortunately, answers to this question have long been measured against an implicit standard: the postwar economy of the 1950s. After showing why that economy provides an implausible standard—made possible by the lack of economic competition from the European and Asian countries, winners or losers, touched by the war—John Henry Schlegel attempts to answer the question of what to do.
While Waiting for Rain first examines the economic history of the United States as well as that …

Crime Victimisation In India, Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Renuka Sane, Ajay Shah, Varsha Aithala
Books
This edited volume is a pioneering and comprehensive study of crime victimisation in India. It considers the public’s fear of crime and perceptions of safety and security, focusing on their access to the police and how they view police effectiveness. This study provides critical data on the level of crime within particular spatial and temporal conditions which can supplement official statistics on crime published by the state, help systematically diagnose law and order issues and develop solutions for …
Commentary On Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Ashok R. Patil
Commentary On Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Ashok R. Patil
Books
The development of new technology in the form of e-commerce and the increasing integration of global markets and supply chains have changed the way consumers interact with the marketplace. This has given rise to new challenges for the consumer, and the existing consumer protection framework falls short in dealing with them. To address these concerns, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, seeks to lay down a more robust scheme for consumer protection with the introduction of new measures such as the establishment of a general regulator, providing for a product liability regime, encouraging mediation, and developing appropriate regulations to protect and …

Breached!: Why Data Security Law Fails And How To Improve It, Woodrow Hartzog, Daniel Solove
Books
Digital connections permeate our lives—and so do data breaches. Given that we must be online for basic communication, finance, healthcare, and more, it is remarkable how difficult it is to secure our personal information. Despite the passage of many data security laws, data breaches are increasing at a record pace. In their book, BREACHED! WHY DATA SECURITY LAW FAILS AND HOW TO IMPROVE IT (Oxford University Press 2022), Professors Daniel Solove and Woodrow Hartzog argue that the law fails because, ironically, it focuses too much on the breach itself.
Drawing insights from many fascinating stories about data breaches, Solove and …

Beyond The Work Product: A Guide To Relationship-Driven Transactional Lawyering, Rachel Landy

The approach is process-focused rather than outcome-focused; it emphasizes every step of the lawyering process, not simply delivering the best work product possible. Whether you are at a big firm, a small firm, or a solo practice, approaching lawyering as a relationship-driven job will help you build …
