Professor Vibhuti Patel

On 17th July 2012, Mrinal Gore passed away. With her demise, an era of women freedom fighters with feminist sensitivities in praxis is over. Inspired by Quit India Movement under leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, 14 year old young girl Mrinal became active in the freedom movement. Drawn to political and social causes, she gave up a promising career in medicine in order to organise the poorest and most powerless. She married her comrade, Shri Keshav Gore and when he died at a young age in 1958, she founded Keshav Gore Smarak Bhavan which provided democratic platform to progressive forces for …

Opening Doors: Preventing Youth Homelessness Through Housing And Education Collaboration, Courtney L. Anderson

Courtney L Anderson

This article will contribute to the general literature on homelessness by recommending that permanent supportive housing units for homeless children, youth and families provide education services in order to prevent and end homelessness among families, youth and children. I will explain how the legal framework for such housing requires a broad interpretation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, and assert that federal programs provide a foundation for the creation of such housing. Identifying and educating homeless youth is particularly challenging as the majority of homeless youth live on the streets or in the homes of others, suffer from serious mental …

"Offer To Sell" As A Policy Tool, Lucas S. Osborn

Lucas S. Osborn

Gone are the days when the term “offer” is confined to first-year contracts courses and the intricacies of contract formation. The offer concept has quietly migrated throughout the law. It now regulates behavior in areas as diverse as criminal law, environmental law, securities law, and intellectual property law. Despite its wide diffusion, the offer concept remains largely unstudied as a legal concept outside of its contract-law environment. This Article begins to fill that gap. The Article begins by deconstructing the meaning of a traditional contract-law “offer” to determine its policy role in contract law, and then compares that role with …

Winner Or Loser? A Post-Quota Case Study Of Pakistan's Textiles And Clothing Exports, Umair H. Ghori

Umair H. Ghori

Textiles and Clothing (T&C) is a critically important sector of international trade for developing countries and least developed countries (LDCs). The T&C sector engages abundant labour resources and requires low investment threshold. The T&C sector has been a contentious area in multilateral trade negotiations. With the expiration of quotas in 2005, many T&C dependent countries are experiencing considerable adjustment challenges. Pakistan is one such country that is extensively reliant on T&C industries. This research note presents a brief case study which looks at post-quota developments in Pakistan's T&C trade and the trade and economic policy issues it raises.
