Building A Cognitive Readiness Construct For Violent Police-Public Encounters, James Eric Preddy

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this multi-methods study was to explore police use-of-force (UoF) instructors’ perceptions about cognitive readiness in the context of violent police-public encounters, examine how experience influences those perceptions, identify competencies of cognitive readiness deemed essential for preparation and response to violent encounters, and align those competencies deemed essential with current UoF training strategies. Sexual Harassment Prevention After #Metoo: Employers' Need To Reevaluate, Michael T. Zugelder, Darrell M. Crosgrove, Paul J. Champagne

Finance Faculty Publications

The complex problem of workplace sexual harassment has now been put in sharper focus by the publicity of high-profile cases and the advent of the #MeToo movement, both of which have educated victims and motivated them to assert their civil rights. Employers can anticipate an increase in reported incidents and will need to reevaluate the sufficiency of their current anti-harassment policies, reporting procedures and support training to prevent sexual harassment. Employers ' should not stop there but should include efforts to create a culture of respect to prevent incidences of sexual harassment in the first place.

Sociology & Criminal Justice Theses & Dissertations

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationships among arrests, informal alcohol related social norms, and alcohol related fatal crashes in the U.S. from 1985-2014. Despite inexorable efforts to eliminate drunk driving, approximately twenty percent of the population drives after drinking (Drew, 2010). Although law enforcement arrests play a key part in policies to deter drunk driving, enforcement of DUI laws varies widely across the country (Erickson et al., 2015). However, no project has explored the relationship between structural factors related to community norms, enforcement, and automobile crashes. Thus, this project adds to the literature and understanding of …
