Jus Ad Bellum, Natural Law, And The Invasion Of Iraq, Johnny Davis, Johnny B. Davis
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
The thesis is the coalition invasion of Iraq violated international law because it went beyond the limited authority to use force given by United Nations Resolution 144 and violated natural law just war principles. The involvement of the United States not only violated just war principles but the requirements of the United States Constitution because Congress did not declare war as was required. The invasion also went beyond the legal limits imposed by the United States Joint Congressional Resolution authorizing the use passed on 2 October 2002. Further, the invasion was not justified by any prior United Nations resolution nor …

Prison Mental Health Programs: A Growing Need Within The American Correctional System, Justin Van Dunk
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy

Such programs' end goal should be focused on aiding the mentally ill and reducing recidivism within this correction population. Throughout this paper, we will discuss specific implemented programs and whether these programs succeed in helping …

The Failure Of Imagination: A Theoretical And Pragmatic Analysis Of Utopianism As An Orientation For Human Life, Maverick Edwards
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
Utopian theorists have long attempted to imagine “perfect” frameworks for human life. From Plato’s description of the ideal, state-centric society in the “Laws”, to Murray Rothbard’s anarcho-capitalist society, theorists have created a myriad of solutions they believe will fix most, if not all, human dilemmas. In analyzing these utopian projects from pragmatic and theoretical perspectives, this paper will argue that utopias are a failed project. Pragmatically, the development of utopia has a long and consistent track record of failure. Even the “successes” of utopian thought are under scrutiny, as they ultimately collapsed. Theoretically, the conceptualization of “perfection” entails unimaginable risk. …
