When imagining a modern David and Goliath story, one would not normally think of a group of Wall Street hedge funds versus individuals on a forum on Reddit.com. In January of 2021 though, many headlines made this comparison, as online traders frantically purchased GameStop stock (“GME”) and drove the prices sky-high, while large hedge funds faced up to $19 billion in losses. Throughout January and mid-February, users of the Reddit forum r/WallStreetBets began buying GME for collective entertainment reasons. The purpose of this research paper is to determine the legal obligations that a shareholder with majority voting rights would have in a dual-voting structure. The focus on the paper is on breaking down the fiduciary duty analysis for its application to dual-voting structures, which currently stands as the shareholder with majority voting rights have no duty to other shareholders.

This paper will focus on my lack of knowledge about how growing up poor would make my own struggle to become a lawyer – especially a lawyer hoping to one day serve her own community – seem cluttered with unending obstacles. Given the costs of becoming a lawyer, and given that poverty disproportionately affects minorities, it is easy to understand why diversity is still lacking in the legal profession. Hands Up, Not Hand-Outs: Elimination Of The Maximum Family Grant Rule In Calworks, Elizabeth Colman

Over the last thirty years, the imposition of more restrictive eligibility limits have made it harder for indigent families to receive public welfare benefits. This paper analyzes one such limit on eligibility for cash-aid assistance to indigent families – the maximum family grant rule. This paper begins with a brief review of the federal and state public cash-aid assistance programs that set the framework in which the rule operates. Next, this paper describes the maximum family grant rule itself. Finally, the paper ends with recommendations and conclusions.

At ninety-six, going on ninety-seven years old, Gene Majeski, the second inductee into the Litigation Section’s Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame, is enjoying a well-deserved retirement from practicing law and writing articles for California Litigation. As such, he has chosen to let his long-time friends and colleagues collectively share, through this article, the 10 most important lessons they have learned from him. This article is the grand prize winner of Legal Language Service's immigration article contest. Legal Language awarded $500 to the grand prize winner as well as $100 awards to the 2nd and 3rd place winners.
Grand prize: Brenner, a student at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Her article, “Challenges Facing Unaccompanied Refugee Minors’ Access to Legal Aid,” brings up the challenges refugee children face in accessing necessary legal services in the United States and discusses the effect a comprehensive approach to legal aid can have on this portion of the US immigrant population.
