America is a nation of immigrants, according to our national narrative. This is the America with its gates open to the world, as well as the America of the melting pot. Underpinning this national narrative is a very particular story of immigration that foregrounds the inclusion of immigrants, rather than their exclusion. Highlighted in this story is the period before 1924, of relatively unfettered European immigration, and the period after 1965, post the lifting of national origins quotas. Nourishing Justice And The Continuum: Implementing A Blended Model In An Immigration Law Clinic, Irene Scharf

The purpose of this Article is to describe how the new Immigration Law Clinic at Southern New England School of Law has combined attention to the School's mission of educating students and expanding justice by serving the community with the broader goal of addressing the continuing educational needs of recent law school graduates. The Clinic not only offers direct legal services to clients but also trains and mentors recently graduated local attorneys, who offer both pro bono client representation as well as student supervision. Through the Immigration Law Clinic, these attorneys are trained in both immigration law and clinical supervision. …

'Bend It Like Beckham' And 'Real Women Have Curves': Constructing Identity In Multicultural Coming-Of-Age Stories, Linda C. Mcclain

This Article looks at the coming-of-age stories in two recent films, Bend It Like Beckham and Real Women Have Curves, as an avenue to explore the question of constructing identity. Both films, arising out of the filmmakers' experiences, aim to offer representations of particular individuals in minority groups that challenge dominant representations. They also offer aspirational visions of how such individuals might find a way to construct a hybrid identity that allows them to negotiate their place within the various groups that claim them and within the broader society.
