Economic Success In The United States, Jason Render Jr.
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
In this research project, I examine the factors that impact the economic success of an individual within the United States. In particular, I investigate the impact of inherent privilege and the impact which socioeconomic upbringing has on the economic success of an individual within American society. This investigation into economic success and the impact of inherent privilege will examine both poor and affluent U.S. citizen populations to find common factors present within both groups. The research will then examine how these factors impact an individual’s overall economic success as a result of the barriers which are inherent based on an …

The Effects Of National Security On Supreme Court Case Decisions Involving Civil Liberties, Callie Gerzanics
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This research project will analyze the effects that national security laws and tensions have on civil liberties and Supreme Court case decisions. National security has been a primary objective for the United States of America for as long as wars have been fought and enemies have been made. National security continues to be a concern for the U.S. government, especially with the prominence of technology that has made the U.S. more vulnerable to breaches in security, such as cybernetic attacks. The motivations behind this project stem from a concern of how national security can influence Supreme Court decisions, police arrests, …

From the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to now, there has been a dramatic change of immigration policies among Western Democracies. This comparative paper will measure the change of refugee acceptance rates and will discover the reasons for these variations. Immigration has become a major issue in the United States as well as in other Western democracies. Even though most of these democracies are located in similar geographic areas and have similar cultures, they all have different approaches when it comes to accepting immigrants and refugees. Furthermore, this paper will analyze the policies of the United States, the United …
Serving The Nation Through The Height Of A Pandemic: An In-Depth Look At Five Large U.S. Cities’ Budgets And Crime Incidents Over The Course Of The Covid-19 Pandemic, Daniel Cooper
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Police departments, like all public agencies, are limited by their budgets and may struggle to recruit and retain qualified officers. In policing, a majority of the budget is spend on salaries, pensions, and benefits. This is increasingly important to look because we have seen calls for defunding the police over the summer of 2020 and certain localities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City have made cuts to their police department. With a loss of budget, some departments had to downsize on specialized units, which played a role in an increase in crime rates. In the case of New …
