Il Seminario è parte di un progetto di ricerca interdisciplinare della Facoltà di Economia – Sapienza Università di Roma, volto alla comparazione tra sistema italiano e altri sistemi europei (Francia e Germania). I relatori affronteranno i profili più significativi dell’Accordo interconfederale del 28 giugno 2011. The governance regime of the public corporation in America, while tending to promote the concentration of economic and social power in company leadership, often encourages that leadership to advance the interests of their company’s short-term shareholders. The result is a board of directors beholden, if to anything at all, to short-term stock prices. This prioritization often comes at the expense of the corporation’s long-term sustainability and to its other constituents: its work force, creditors, and community. In contrast, governance in Continental European countries like Germany persuades corporate leadership to embrace social obligations and long-term outlooks through, e.g., enforced stakeholder representation …

Are Muslims The New Catholics? Europe's Headscarf Laws In Comparative Historical Perspective, Robert Kahn

ABSTRACT: Many European opponents of the headscarf view themselves as engaged in a “struggle against totalitarianism.” This article explores an alternative framing: What if Muslims—rather than Nazis or Communists in training—are the more like nineteenth century Catholics, who were seen as a religious threat to European (and U.S.) liberalism? To explore this idea, this article looks at the headscarf debate through the lens of the German Kulturkampf (1871-1887) and nineteenth century U.S. laws that banned public school teachers from wearing clerical garb. Abortion And Women's Legal Personhood In Germany: A Contribution To The Feminist Theory Of The State, D. A. Jeremy Telman

This article looks at abortion regulation in Germany in the context of the full range of laws through which the state specifies the status of women as legal persons. Reviewing Germany's most important abortion law decisions in 1975 and 1993, the article contends that while the Constitutional Court struck a balance between the East German legacy of reproductive freedom and West Germany's robust protections of the right to life, it did so by undermining the legal structures that had facilitated full civil, economic and political equality for women in East Germany through legal regimes geared towards protecting women's reproductive autonomy.
