The flexicurity strategy in Netherlands and Denmark, i.e. flexible labour market and the reinforcement of social security institutions, successfully kept the unemployment rate from rising in the 1990s and has drawn attention from social policy scholars. Under the development of flexible labour market and destabilized employment pattern, the agenda of flexicurity strategy has been shifted to strengthen and facilitate the transitions in social security institutions. Drawing on institutional analysis on redistribution of time and income, this paper explores outcomes and development from recent flexicurity reforms. We may ask why, at both the individual and collective levels, it has seemed so difficult for us to choose to evolve our human games with Joy. There is no one answer for such a question, for each of us has the gift of free will. I will suggest, however, that built into our human games is what I call a primary human challenge. That primary human challenge is a dynamic tension, flowing from our creative urge for the freedom “to be” who we really are in our current physical form, and simultaneously to embrace our responsibility for our Being-ness.

Detaining and incarcerating juvenile delinquents is ineffective and costly juvenile justice policy. These placements, indicative of the “tough on crime” approach, become problematic for many of these youths who do not have the advantage of legal counsel because they waive this right. In addition, a majority of these youths have a mental health or special education disability that does not get addressed in correctional facilities. Alternatives for Youth's Advocacy Program (AFY) in Cleveland, Ohio (Cuyahoga County) is addressing these issues using a holistic approach that includes the provision of civil legal representation to assist youths in accessing disability services and …

Social workers, like all professionals, sometimes make mistakes. For example, they may disclose clients' confidential information inappropriately, fail to respond to clients' reasonable requests in a timely manner, or engage in improper dual relationships with clients. Ideally, social workers who err would follow a protocol that honors the profession's commitment to responsible and honest communication and minimizes the practical risks faced by social workers who might be named in lawsuits, licensing board complaints, and ethics complaints. There has been a long established relationship problem between Child Protective Services (CPS) social workers and Law Enforcement (LE) officers. It is an issue of which both sides are aware, but neither has addressed this discord in an effort to improve collaboration between the two agencies. The purpose of this study is to help both Law Enforcement officers and Children Protection Services workers build a strong interdisciplinary relationship in child abuse cases.

Despite the importance of civil orders of protection as a legal resource for victims of intimate partner violence, research is limited in this area, and most studies focus on the process following a court’s initial issuance of an emergency order. The purpose of this study is to address a major gap in the literature by examining cases where victims of intimate partner violence are denied access to temporary orders of protection. The study sample included a review of 2,205 petitions that had been denied by a Kentucky court during the 2003 fiscal year. The study offers important insights into the …
