It may be that there is no literate person alive in the Western world who has not heard of Count Lyof Nikolaevich Tolstoi (Tolstoy), author of what some have called the quintessential novel among all recorded literature: War and Peace. It may also be that most literate persons are aware that Tolstoy was a moralist of some renown-of great renown in his day-whose pacifist thought presaged and influenced Mohandas K.
