From War To Home: The Systematic Issues Operation Enduring And Iraqi Freedom Veterans Face Transitioning With Ptsd, Tiffany D. Ware
From War To Home: The Systematic Issues Operation Enduring And Iraqi Freedom Veterans Face Transitioning With Ptsd, Tiffany D. Ware
Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the perceptions of Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom veterans with PTSD, who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, regarding their participation in the Disabled Transition Assistance Program.
Methodology: The methodology for this research study will be qualitative from a phenomenological perspective. When thinking of research as it pertains to qualitative methods, it is appropriate to use when a researcher is trying to study the lived experiences of individuals (Flipp, 2014; Patton, 2015). This method will describe perceptions of Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom veterans with PTSD, who are …
War's Children, Julie Niejadlik
War's Children, Julie Niejadlik
Honors Theses
When one thinks of war, one does not often think of children. Images of Navy SEALS in camouflage tanks and the desert may come to mind when thinking of modern war. Those of Pearl Harbor, the Allied Forces, and Hitler may arise when thinking of war in a more historical sense. In the mind of the civilian children and the key role that they play in armed conflict rarely surfaces. In this thesis, I will address the function of children in war by arguing that their assumed innocence, as well as their assumed status as a "child" makes them easily …
An Economic Analysis Of Civil War: How Constitutions And Ethnic Diversity Impact Internal Conflict, Zachary Roth
An Economic Analysis Of Civil War: How Constitutions And Ethnic Diversity Impact Internal Conflict, Zachary Roth
Honors Theses
This thesis explores the connection between ethnic diversity and constitutional structures on the incidence of civil war. The following paper will bridge the gap between existing economic literature on constitutions and the existing work on civil wars. The main economic theory behind civil war is a cost-benefit analysis. Costs of civil wars include raising an army supporting the army economic losses due to conflict and the lives lost in the fighting itself while the main benefit is the gains of governing. The other main economic theory to civil war is game theory exploring how the two sides engaging in civil …
A Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Crisis Care & Counseling Course Within The Special Operations Forces At The Joint Special Operations University, Mary Ann Quartetti
A Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Crisis Care & Counseling Course Within The Special Operations Forces At The Joint Special Operations University, Mary Ann Quartetti
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
The Special Operations Forces have experienced a surge in PTSD and suicides in the past several years, now surpassing conventional military branches. Due to the attached stigma for seeking help from mental health professions and potential negative career effects, military personnel are more likely to seek counseling from their unit chaplain. The U.S. military does not require chaplains to have a counseling degree or certification in counseling as a prerequisite to performing duties as a chaplain, although most Masters of Divinity programs do include some counseling courses. The military does provide limited training to its chaplains in counseling. Special Operations …
The Role Of Colonialism And Neo-Colonialism In Shaping Anti-Terrorism Law In Comparative And International Perspectives: Case Studies Of Egypt And Tunisia, Fatemah Alzubairi
The Role Of Colonialism And Neo-Colonialism In Shaping Anti-Terrorism Law In Comparative And International Perspectives: Case Studies Of Egypt And Tunisia, Fatemah Alzubairi
PhD Dissertations
Contemporary anti-terrorism legislation has raised concerns about the global evolution of law and crime control. National and global anti-terrorism frameworks include broad definitions of terrorist crimes and exceptional measures, which risk violating the rule of law and criminal justice. While these frameworks have been broadened since 9/11, the experience of the Arab world shows that wide sweeping anti-terrorism frameworks existed well before this time. This dissertation investigates the origin of current anti-terrorism laws and measures, arguing that colonialism and neo-colonialism contributed to the shaping of counter-terrorism law and policy in two case studies: Egypt and Tunisia. The investigation considers the …

The Strategic Challenges Of Urban Warfare, Christian Aditya Niksch
The Strategic Challenges Of Urban Warfare, Christian Aditya Niksch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
With urbanization on the rise, policymakers cannot ignore urban conflicts. In the aftermath of the Cold War, several scholars were of the opinion that primitive modes of fighting, such as close combat, would cease to be used. However, as urban spaces have increasingly become battlefields in the 21st century, there has been a retrogression to a brutal and bloody mode of fighting. This return of primitivism affects the tactics that the military can use in urban warfare, which makes it a daunting strategic challenge. A combined focus on policy, strategy, and operations is necessary to improve thinking about how exactly …
Grave Breaches: American Military Intervention In The Late Twentieth- Century And The Consequences For International Law, Calla Cameron
Grave Breaches: American Military Intervention In The Late Twentieth- Century And The Consequences For International Law, Calla Cameron
CMC Senior Theses
The duality of the United States’ relationship with international criminal law and human rights atrocities is a fascinating theme that weaves through all of American history, but most distinctly demonstrates the contradictory nature of American foreign policy in the latter half of the 20th century. America is both protector of human rights and perpetrator of human rights atrocities, global police force and aggressor. The Cold War exacerbated the tensions caused by American military dominance. The international political and physical power of the American military allowed the United States to do as it pleased in the 20th century with few consequences, …
