The First-Semester Student: The Legal-Problem-Solving Apprentice, Kylie Fletcher
Kylie Fletcher
Students are asked to answer hypothetical legal problems very early in their studies. They are typically introduced to legal-problem-solving processes (eg IRAC, FILAC, MIRAT and CLEO) very early in their first- semester subjects. An ability to answer hypothetical legal problems is critical to the student’s success at law school. Further, many students fail to understand that the process they adopt can be applied …

We are surrounded by technology – most of it designed to make our personal and professional lives easier. We have voice-assisted software at our fingertips. One conversation with Siri® and we know where to dine or who starred in our favorite movie. In the legal profession, technology is used not only to process words, but to conduct legal research, manage voluminous litigation documents, and track information on opposing counsel. Surely, then, there is a place for technology in the legal writing process.

Finding The Law (12th Ed.), Elizabeth Edinger, Robert Berring
Robert Berring
This book provides a comprehensive treatment of print and digital sources of legal information, concentrating on the basics of legal research covered by most law school courses. The book serves as both a text and a reference guide for legal researchers. It covers the context of legal research and includes information on state legal research guides; bibliographies; court reports; case verification and updating; case finding; and sources of federal regulatory agency rules, regulations, and adjudications. It offers guidance on how to read a case and deal with legal authority and provides up-to-date information via a corresponding Web site.

Designed for first-semester, first-year law students, provides a readable introduction to what first-year students need to know. This work does not provide comprehensive coverage of legal materials, and is not designed to replace traditional legal texts. Instead, it seeks to provide an easy-to-read introduction for the new law student.

Choosing The Top Candidate: Best Practices In Academic Law Library Hiring, Ronald Wheeler, Nancy Johnson, Terrance Manion
Terrance K Manion
The authors discuss successful hiring practices in academic law libraries. Their discussion details each step of the hiring process, from vacancy to offer, and explores strategies for implementing the steps successfully. The processes examined include: reviewing the vacancy, assessing the library needs, forming an effective search committee, writing a winning job description, checking references, conducting an interview, and making an offer. The authors assert that a successful hire will influence every aspect of your library and, as such, a library needs to devote considerable attention and resources to librarian searches.
