Christiana Ochoa was recently announced as the Dean of the Maurer School of Law. She is the first Latina dean of the law school. This announcement was celebrated by the Latinx student and staff community here at IU, as they expressed their support for her and look forward to the culture she’ll facilitate at the law school.

Ochoa Selected As New Dean Of Iu Maurer, First Person Of Color To Lead Law School, Jordan Morey

The next dean of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law will come from in house.
IU Maurer announced longtime faculty member Christiana Ochoa as the 17th dean in the law school’s history on Thursday.
Ochoa, who has served as interim dean since July, will move into the full-time deanship at the Bloomington school effective Nov. 1. She is the first person of color and the second woman to be named dean in IU Maurer’s history.
Additionally, according to IU Maurer, Ochoa is the eighth Latina ever to serve as the dean of a U.S. law school.

An Indianapolis native, Maurer graduated from North Central High School and received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Colorado. He returned home for law school, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University, where he was a writer and an editor of the Law Journal. He is admitted to both the New York and the Indiana Bars, and has also successfully completed the CPA examination. Maurer serves as Chairman of the Board of IBJ Corporation. A 349 page collection of talks and recollections compiled by former Indiana University School of Law Dean, William Burnett Harvey. The collection is broken down into four parts: Reflections on the Rule of Law, The African Experience, Reflections on Education, Universities and Law, and Miscellaneous Musings.
Two appendixes are included. The first is a bibliography, and the second is two narrative accounts of Harvey's time in Ghana and his final years at Indiana University during the turbulent 1960s.

Upon receiving an invitation to attend the 1957 dedication festivities for the newly built law building, Class of 1893 alum Luther M. Grimes hand wrote a response that is one part RSVP and one part trip down memory lane.
He said that he was regretfully unable to attend; at 87 1/2 years it was "on account of age" that he couldn't travel from his Iowa home. He considered that he may have been among the oldest living Indiana University alums, and was, with certainty, the last surviving member of his law class.
