Rev. David T. Link, the Joseph A. Matson Dean Emeritus of Notre Dame Law School, once said, “Your vocation is what you do to make a living. Your purpose in life is what you do to make living worthwhile.”
Father Link had both — in abundance.
A prosecutor, professor, and priest, Father Link died Thursday (Oct. 28). He was 85.

Maura Poston Zagrans is an American Catholic poet, author, and photographer. Her book “Camerado, I Give You My Hand,” published by Image in August 2013, tells the non-fiction story of Father David T. Link, a Notre Dame University dean and lawyer who became a priest at 71 after his wife died and now works as a Catholic chaplain to inmates at Indiana State Prison.

In 2014, Fr. David Link, was awarded the James Keller Award in recognition of putting his faith into action to change the world for better by serving in prison ministry.
The Christophers were founded in 1945 by Maryknoll priest Father James Keller who saw there was a need for people of all faiths to engage in constructive action based on gospel values.

A 71-year-old retired law school dean and widowed grandfather became one of three newly ordained priests June 7 in the Diocese of Gary.
“I’m at the highest point I could ever be,” said Father David T. Link, on the day of his ordination at Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary. “I know the Holy Spirit and my wife, Barbara, are here with me.”
