The Emergence Of Hybrid International Commercial Courts And The Future Of Cross Border Commercial Dispute Resolution In Asia, Firew Tiba

The bulk of international commercial disputes are resolved by national courts. In Asia, regional international arbitration centres in places such as Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo have also been partaking in these exercises albeit at varying levels of popularity. While commercial arbitrations remain popular, the influence of these bodies in driving convergence has been questioned. This has been in part due to the confidential nature of their awards and their ad hoc nature. Trump's Foreign Policy: Realist Economic Nationalism, Eric Engle

Loyola University Chicago International Law Review

This article presents newly-elected President Trump's proposed foreign policies, contextualizing them in the greater picture of U.S. global strategy. It argues that Trump's proposed foreign policies are largely a salutary reaction against repeated neoconservative errors, perpetrated by both Republicans and Democrats. However, like the younger President Bush, Trump pursues a unilateral approach to international relations. Trump's unilateralism risks repeating some of the unilateralist errors of the younger Bush. Moreover, Trump's policies to restrict immigration, raise wages, introduce tariffs, and pursue protectionist policies, if in fact implemented, will prove economically disastrous and will fail to deliver the promised prosperity for ordinary …

Transnational Support And Legal Education Reform In Developing Countries: Findings And Lessons From Burma/Myanmar, Jonathan Liljeblad

Loyola University Chicago International Law Review

Myanmar's current transition involves a concerted international effort to promote the rule of law. Legal education is integral to promoting the rule of law, and so calls for development aid that works to improve a country's legal education system. The nature of development aid, however, calls for some analysis of its efficacy. This paper contributes to this call by taking as a case study the state of transnational aid efforts to improve legal education in Burma/Myanmar, and finds issues that threaten the efficacy of international aid efforts to reform legal education in developing countries.
