Since mid-20th century, international migration has become a widespread phenomenon in nearly all industrialized countries and a major shaping force of the international labor market. Most economic theories consider labor migration to be an investment of human capital where workers seek to maximize household income and minimize financial risks. Because exchange rate changes affect prospective income and financial risks associated with migration, studying the responsiveness of skilled migrants to exchange rate fluctuations contribute to the studies of labor economics and international economics. The intent of this senior project is to interview my mother and father to see through their eyes the life they had in Mexico, their motivation to cross the border, the difficulties of crossing the border and assimilating to the new culture. The aim of this project is to present the effect of the immigration issue in the United States, with a direct focus in San Luis Obispo, and including a spread of intercultural knowledge between the Hispanic and the Caucasian community. Through a fictional short story, the manifestation of these ideas will relate to current events occurring in our society today. The following is an online awareness intervention designed to reduce anti-immigrant sentiment and myth throughout the greater community by means of an educational toolkit. The foundation of this toolkit was designed using macro level theoretical intervention frameworks. The content is grounded in empirically based interpersonal communication strategies specialized in addressing anti-immigrant sentiment. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients represent a new and somewhat unexplored population within the undocumented immigrant community. Having only been introduced three years ago, they live within a state of liminality, legally present in the United States for the first time but with the understanding that it can be stripped from them without a moments warning. This thesis argues that alternative dispute resolution processes form a vital part of Canada's immigration and refugee claims determination system. Using an analytical framework that draws on dispute resolution and relational feminist theory, it explores how alternative processes provide advantages over adversarial ones for claims that engage issues of power and relationships. By aligning claims with appropriate processes, system administrators can improve the fairness, efficiency and durability of resolutions. Introductory Chapters describe the administrative law structure that governs immigration and refugee claims in Canada, and the Immigration Appeal Division's Early Resolution program.
