This is a time of crisis in legal education. In truth, we are in the midst of several crises. We are emerging from the COVID pandemic, a period of unprecedented upheaval where law students and law faculty alike struggled through physical challenges, mental health burdens, and decreased academic and professional success. Revising the Tenure Code of an institution of higher learning may be among the most challenging of the processes it undertakes, especially when there is a commitment to shared governance by its Board of Trustees and Faculty. At Mitchell Hamline School of Law, we recently experienced this process - both difficult and ultimately satisfying - following the combination of two law schools. Union grievance alleging breach of the Collective Agreement between the parties for the period April 1, 1988 - March 31, 1991 in that the Employer is in violation of Article 16 and other relevant articles in not paying Academic Staff Members at their Y-value (salary scale placement) as revised by the Salary Parity Committee. The Union requests compensation for all members who have not been paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
