Continental Europe is in the midst of revolutions. The immediate antecedents are such as to suggest the probable accompaniment of more widespread and perhaps even more intense passions of various sort, than have ever before been brought into being with a revolution. This in turn suggests the likelihood that there will follow more political plots and counter-revolutions than is usual in such cases. In this letter, dated April 16, 1919, from E. L. D**, father of the complainant in the State v. Stepp statutory rape case, to North Dakota Attorney General William Langer, D** refers to a letter he is enclosing from Devils Lake attorney Fred J. Traynor (misspelled here as "Trainor"). D** writes that if Langer would come and represent his daughter, D** would "drop all other special counsel."

In this letter, dated February 14, 1919, from North Dakota (ND) Attorney General William Langer to L. F. Hinegardner of Sarles, ND in response to Hinegardner's letter of February 10, 1919.
Langer acknowledges receipt of Hinegardner's letter, as well as the enclosed statements from Mr. and Mrs. D** and Sarles village marshall Alvah Phillebaum.
Langer says that everything said during the proceedings should have been recorded by a stenographer, and says he will contact Judge Kneeshaw to request a transcript of the proceedings.

D** to North Dakota Attorney General William Langer Mr. and Mrs. D** report that Mrs. Hiram Stepp, knowing about the pregnancy of their daughter, threatened the daughter with "an awful beating" if she told her mother of her pregnancy, and wanted to "spirit" her away, promising her a home with them somewhere else.
