The development of new technology in the form of e-commerce and the increasing integration of global markets and supply chains have changed the way consumers interact with the marketplace. This has given rise to new challenges for the consumer, and the existing consumer protection framework falls short in dealing with them. To address these concerns, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, seeks to lay down a more robust scheme for consumer protection with the introduction of new measures such as the establishment of a general regulator, providing for a product liability regime, encouraging mediation, and developing appropriate regulations to protect and …

The goals of the Homelessness and Legal Advocacy Clinic are to educate students in homelessness related issues, such as housing, public benefits, family law, and consumer law. In addition to interviewing clients at the Clinic's office, Clinic students interview homeless individuals at the Coalition for the Homeless, the Women's Residential Counseling Center, and potential clients who contact the Clinic.

Published as Chapter 12 in Import Safety: Regulatory Governance in the Global Economy, Cary Coglianese, Adam M. Finkel & David Zaring, eds.
This paper examines the role of ‘private’ (non-governmental) regulatory programs in assuring the safety of imported products. Focusing particularly on food safety it argues that private regulatory institutions have great capacity to control safety hazards and to implement dynamic systems for detecting and correcting nascent risks. However, to establish the accountability and legitimacy relationships necessary for long-term effectiveness, private safety regulatory programs must devise new ways of incorporating and responding to the interests of developing country producers, laborers, …
