This dissertation analyzes whether international trade agreements, to which the Kingdom of Jordan is a party, and its legal framework, along with economic policies, have an impact on Jordan's organization of economic activities, particularly with respect to patterns of international trade. This dissertation further analyzes whether Jordan's commitment and subsequent policies to increase its economic growth are important determinants of its comparative advantage in the region, and researches whether the policies implemented to build international trade actually lead to an efficient, growing, and sustainable economy.

This thesis looks at legal mechanisms allowing the non-collection of tax debts in the tax systems of Canada and the United States. The goal is to shed light on the choices made in Canada's tax collection system by juxtaposing it with the American system. The comparison reveals differences in the ways in which the two jurisdictions allow taxpayers to participate in the tax system and differences in how the two jurisdictions choose to make decisions about the forgiveness of tax debts. A study of states of exception in constitutional law, this project proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, providing for limited derogations of constitutional rights under declarations of emergency. The project begins with an analysis of US Supreme Court case law dealing with limitations of constitutional rights (e.g. suspension of the writ of habeas corpus and the freedoms of speech and press) during periods of crisis, such as war or the threat of war.
