In this article, I aim to expand our understanding of the transnational production and increasing international appeal of contemporary Chinese cinema in 2012 and 2013; my viewpoint is from the outside looking in. To achieve this aim, I analyze two key developments that are contributing to the rapidly shifting shape and style of the Chinese film industry: 1) increasing post-production collaborations with film industry practitioners and firms from South Korea – an important trading partner for China; and 2) the popular reception of Chinese films on the international film festival circuit, in particular the responses of a diverse group of …

Women in Japan voted and stood for office for the first time on 10 April 1946. It was the country's first postwar election and the first election after the Japanese government amended the Electoral Law to include women. Of the 79 female candidates, 39 were elected to Japan's national parliament, the Diet. Seventy years on, what is the state of gender relations in Japan? What issues now stimulate feminist campaigns and activism?

Governance and institutions must function effectively if sustainable development and growth are to occur within the Pacific Islands region. In 2007, the FFA and the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), supported by funding from AusAID, contracted Quentin Hanich, Feleti Teo and Professor Martin Tsamenyi to research governance and institutional gaps within the region that undermine the effective management and development of the region's fish stocks. Following an intensive round of interviews throughout the Pacific islands region by all three consultants, Mr Hanich authored a comprehensive report that discussed relevant governance and institutional gaps and recommended a number …
