Embracing hospitality and inclusion in Abrahamic traditions

One of the signal moments in the narrative of the biblical Abraham is his insistent and enthusiastic reception of three strangers, a starting point of inspiration for all three Abrahamic traditions as they evolve and develop the details of their respective teachings. On the one hand, welcoming the stranger by remembering “that you were strangers in the land of Egypt” is enjoined upon the ancient Israelites, and on the other, oppressing the stranger is condemned by their prophets throughout the Hebrew Bible.

The contract of mudharabah is a mutual agreement between the first party (malik, shahibul maal, or Sharia Bank) which supports the whole capitals and the second party (‘amil, mudharib, or Customer) which acts upon fund endowment by sharing the profit in accordance with the agreement stated in the contract, while the loss is fully covered by Sharia Bank unless the customer (mudharib) makes an intentional mistake, in negligence or violates the agreement. The problems of contract of mudharabah financing arises when owners of capital requires collateral to be met by businesses. After reformation, constitutional structure of Republic of Indonesia has transformed fundamentally. People consultative assembly (MPR) is no longer as the highest of state institution anymore. Further- more, impeachment as one of the feature of presidential government system is regulated in new con- stitution. Before amendment, Indonesia has no rule of impeachment. So, impeachment is only based on political decision not law decision and it is not appropriate with rule of law principle. This article describe the comparison of impeachment requirement in UUD 1945 with impeachment requirement in Imam Al- Mawardi’s thought as a political islamic scholar.

Marielle Franco was a Black, Brazilian activist (1979-2018) who rose from the favelas (poor areas) of Rio de Janeiro to be elected as a councilwoman in Rio's election of 2016. Franco was known for exposing the violence waged in the favelas by Brazil's military and police under the "pretense of maintaining law and order," as well as how the militia wields power over those who live in the favelas. Steve and Anita Canfield helped the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turkey. They helped send blankets, coats, and washing machines to Syrian refugees. They were assigned to Frankfurt to assess refugee camps, soup kitchens, warehouses, and immigrant communities. The couple visited refugee camps and soup kitchens all over Europe to determine what was needed most by refugees.

In 2005, a couple came to Leonard when he was homeless in the Provo library. They found out that he needed help and offered to let me live with them. They ended up paying my tuition for my education and I went to college for five years.

After the July 2012 death of Thomas Kelly from a one-punch assault in Kings Cross, the NSW government engaged in a nuanced and multi-faceted response to alcohol-fuelled violence in Sydney’s major entertainment precinct. Unfortunately, the government’s latest response — the Crimes and Other Legislation Amendment (Assault and Intoxication) Act 2014 (NSW) (‘the Act’) — is deserving of no such praise. Not only is the argument that a discrete ‘one punch’ law is necessary in NSW without foundation, but the legislation has been drafted in a legally complex and confusing way that is likely to result in operational difficulty.
