Integrating Laser Charging And Drones For Secure Edge Computing, Weiqi Liu May 2024

Integrating Laser Charging And Drones For Secure Edge Computing, Weiqi Liu

Dissertations

Drone-mounted base stations (DBSs) have emerged as a promising solution to enhance the flexibility and coverage of wireless networks, potentially revolutionizing communication systems. This dissertation explores the integration of DBSs into 5G and beyond networks, focusing on methodologies to optimize their deployment and performance. A laser charging-enabled DBS framework is proposed to extend flight time and enhance network coverage. By leveraging laser charging technology, the DBS can receive continuous energy transmission from a ground-based charging station while providing communication services to users. The framework is formulated as an optimization problem to jointly maximize flight time and communication data rate, while …

Data Multiplexing In Vector Acoustic Communication: System Design And Experiments, Erjian Zhang Aug 2019

Data Multiplexing In Vector Acoustic Communication: System Design And Experiments, Erjian Zhang

Dissertations

Acoustic particle velocity channels, which are vector components of the acoustic field, have been recently explored to achieve communication purposes underwater. Vector sensors and transducers that can utilize acoustic particle velocity channels have compact multichannel designs, which are perfect for compact size underwater platforms. In this dissertation, an underwater acoustic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system featuring orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation is discussed. By transmitting multiple independent data streams simultaneously over several channels within the same bandwidth, the proposed MIMO system increases the transmission rate. A variety of components of the system such as …

Multiframe Coded Computation For Distributed Uplink Channel Decoding, Brinell F. Monteiro May 2019

Multiframe Coded Computation For Distributed Uplink Channel Decoding, Brinell F. Monteiro

Theses

The latest 5G technology in wireless communication has led to an increasing demand for higher data rates and low latencies. The overall latency of the system in a cloud radio access network is greatly affected by the decoding latency in the uplink channel. Various proposed solutions suggest using network function virtualization (NFV). NFV is the process of decoupling the network functions from hardware appliances. This provides the exibility to implement distributed computing and network coding to effectively reduce the decoding latency and improve the reliability of the system. To ensure the system is cost effective, commercial off the shelf (COTS) …

Energy Scavenging System For Indoor Wireless Sensor Network, David Andrew Crea Jan 2011

Energy Scavenging System For Indoor Wireless Sensor Network, David Andrew Crea

Theses

As wireless communication evolves wireless sensors have begun to be integrated into society more and more. As these sensors are used to a greater extent newer and better ways to keep them working optimally have begun to surface. One such method aims to further the sensors energy independence on humans. This technique is known as energy scavenging. The logic behind energy scavenging is to allow the device to have its own reliable source of energy that does not require upkeep, has a long life expectancy, and does not completely rely on an internal power source. The aim of this thesis …

Performance Analysis Of Collaborative Hybrid-Arq Protocols Over Fading Channels, Igor Stanojev May 2006

Performance Analysis Of Collaborative Hybrid-Arq Protocols Over Fading Channels, Igor Stanojev

Theses

Impairments due to multipath signal propagation on the performance of wireless communications systems can be efficiently mitigated with time, frequency or spatial diversity. To exploit spatial diversity, multiple-antenna technology has been thoroughly investigated and emerged as one of the most mature communications areas. However, the need for smaller user terminals, which results in insufficient spacing for antenna collocation, tends to limit the practical implementation of this technology. Without compromising terminal dimensions, future wireless networks will therefore have to exploit their broadcast nature and rely on collaboration between single-antenna terminals for exploiting spatial diversity.

Among cooperative schemes, Collaborative ARQ transmission protocols, …

Evaluation Of Coding Scheme For Mimo Radar, Suresh Kumar Harikrishnan Aug 2005

Evaluation Of Coding Scheme For Mimo Radar, Suresh Kumar Harikrishnan

Theses

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna systems have shown a great potential for wireless communication. These systems support high capacity, increased diversity and interference suppression. Recently it has been proposed MIMO constellations for Radar. MIMO Radar is not only a new research field, but also a very promising approach in terms of overcoming Radar Cross Section (RCS) fluctuations with diversity. This thesis explores the potential of coding schemes for MIMO Radar.

The ambiguity functions measures related to MIMO Radar are used to evaluate how much diversity gain can be coherently achieved with certain coding schemes. The results of this analysis …

Transmission And Detection For Space-Time Block Coding And V-Blast Systems, Lei He May 2004

Transmission And Detection For Space-Time Block Coding And V-Blast Systems, Lei He

Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on topics of data transmission and detection of space -time block codes (STBC). The STBCs can be divided into two main categories, namely, the orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBC) and the quasi-orthogonal space-time codes (Q-OSTBC). The space-time block coded systems from transceiver design perspective for both narrow-band and frequency selective wireless environment are studied. The dissertation also processes and studies a fast iterative detection scheme for a high-rate space-time transmission system, the V-BLAST system.

In Chapter 2, a new OSTBC scheme with full-rate and full-diversity, which can be used on QPSK transceiver systems with four transmit antennas …
