The much publicised panting competition at school level on the occasion of Energy Conservation Day was a good effort to send message to consumers to influence their energy consumption behaviour. But the effect is minuscule.

As a child one might have walked or cycled to school. But as a breadwinner, once energy related decisions largely get influenced by one's income level and opportunities and restrictions.

Portable bright light units, the Boeing Alertness Model (BAM) and Jeppessen Crew Alert application have been introduced in a field study with long haul pilots and cabin crew in ground breaking research – which may lead to improvements in aviation safety through the development of new preventive alertness strategies. Western Michigan University, Novair Airlines, Nature Bright, Jeppesen Crew Alert and leading sleep scientists collaborated to examine whether timed blue light integrated with the Boeing Alertness Model will improve alertness, and mitigate cognitive fatigue. Sharing research data and scholarship is of national importance due to the increased focus on maximizing return on the government’s investment in research programs. Recent policy changes have directly affected the management and accessibility of publically-funded research. On January 18, 2011 the National Science Foundation (NSF) required data management plans to be submitted with all grant proposals. On February 22, 2013, the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the President of the United States extended a similar requirement to all federal agencies with research and development budgets of more than $100 million.
