The Effects Of Joint Training On Career And Technical Education And Special Education Professionals, Crystal K. Emery, Robert L. Morgan

Developmental Disabilities Network Journal

Abstract

Young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who leave high school have limited options in adulthood. Their rates of competitive employment in inclusive community settings is very low compared to their counterparts without disabilities. Involvement in postsecondary education and independent, community living is likewise limited. They need teams of trained professionals representing relevant disciplines who work together to support the student along college, career, and community pathways. Not only should special educators (SPED) be trained, but career technical education (CTE) professionals should be jointly trained in how to collaborate effectively and provide well-coordinated services. The purpose of this research …

Employers’ Experiences With Graduates Of Industrial Systems Technology Community College Programs In Northeast Alabama: A Phenomenological Study, Todd Edwards Freshwater

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand what skills alignment gaps exist between graduates of Industrial Systems Technology CTE programs and local industrial employers. Career Technical Education is structured to develop students using practical experiences, which help students to develop the skills, both practical and soft, needed to work as technical career professionals. A phenomenological approach was used to structure this study. Phenomenological research is used to explore the shared meaning of a group of individuals that have the same experience, discovering differences and similarities between those experiences. The setting of this phenomenological study was the production and …

Evolution Of Computational Thinking Contextualized In A Teacher-Student Collaborative Learning Environment., John Arthur Underwood May 2020

Evolution Of Computational Thinking Contextualized In A Teacher-Student Collaborative Learning Environment., John Arthur Underwood

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The discussion of Computational Thinking as a pedagogical concept is now essential as it has found itself integrated into the core science disciplines with its inclusion in all of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS, 2018). The need for a practical and functional definition for teacher practitioners is a driving point for many recent research endeavors. Across the United States school systems are currently seeking new methods for expanding their students’ ability to analytically think and to employee real-world problem-solving strategies (Hopson, Simms, and Knezek, 2001). The need for STEM trained individuals crosses both the vocational certified and college degreed …

Perception Influenced By Phenomena: Identify Core-Subject Teacher Perceptions Of Career Technical Education, Sheri Lynn Tucker

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to identify the perception influenced by phenomena impacting core-subject teacher perceptions of career technical education (CTE). Studies show that CTE is highly successful at preparing California’s students for college and career (Friedman, 2006). However, some educators see “CTE maintain less value in helping to encourage student success” (Shanklin, 2014, p. 3). The phenomenological study examined the perception influencing lived experiences with focus groups and one-on-one interviews. Core-subject teachers participated in these face-to-face interviews. Findings show that core-subject teachers are biased against CTE. Analysis of the survey results determined perception influenced by phenomena experienced by …

Student Perspectives On Classroom Community In A Career Technical Center, Laura Robinson

CUP Ed.D. Dissertations

This paper researches how to build community from a students’ perspective, in a criminal justice program in a career technical education center. It is not known how students perceive community building as happening in a criminal justice classroom. Four components of the Lamica model contributed to a model of classroom community or social and emotional learning: experiential education, Capturing Kid’s Hearts, military command structure, and peer mentoring. A case study design was utilized to study this problem through interviews, and questionnaires, from both students and instructors. Analysis of the interviews, both student and instructors, and questionnaires was hand coded …
