National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference
"Success Is the Only Option". Reflective, Engaging, Imperative. Often times teachers place grades on report cards without analyzing or reflecting. Interesting conversations take place when teachers are presented with a chart displaying the number of As and Bs compared to the number Ds and Fs. What does a snapshot of your classroom, school, or district reveal about both student and teacher academic success? This presentation allows participants to identify resolutions to barriers, as well as receive tools that enhance student/teacher engagement - as Academic Success Is the Only Option.

Positive teacher-student relationships are essential for a safe classroom that promotes academic achievement and social/emotional development for all children. Teachers need specific practices and resources to support them in establishing positive teacher-student relationships with all their students. All students deserve a consistent adult connection and to call school a safe place to learn and grow.

National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference
Students need ongoing practice and scaffolds to solve problems and complete constructed responses proficiently. F1NE-TUNE’s RACE is a graphic organizer that will help this effort. Additionally, RACE challenges spaces of marginality because it: • Advocates culturally-relevant word problems, • Encourages multiple representations, • Promotes discussion, and • Requires reasoning to communicate solutions.

Promoting Bilingualism And Biculturalism In Culturally And Linguistically Diverse Families In South Korea, Jooeun Kim
Symposium of Student Scholars
In 2006, the South Korean government set forth a policy supporting Korean education for culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) children, indicating they were incapable of learning “proper” Korean under foreign parents (Hong, 244). Considering how such children continue to be deprived of the right to acquire mother tongue in the South Korea, there have been recent efforts to develop bilingual coaching programs. In the long run, examining how it can be practically implemented and sustained as a helpful program can contribute to CLD children’s bilingual and bicultural development. The current study aims to explore perspectives and experiences of bilingual coaches …

In the field of Applied Behavior Analysis, tangible items (i.e. toys) are often used to help learners meet goals in academic, social, and adaptive living skills. While use of high preference reinforcers has been linked to improved performance, repeated use of a single item can cause satiation and reduce effectiveness. Using a variety of reinforcers can allow therapists to minimize these satiation effects (Bowman et al., 1997; Koehler & Iwata, …

Still A Forgotten War? Investigation Of College Students' Understanding Of The Korean War., Symphony Williams
Symposium of Student Scholars
The purpose of my research is to investigate how much and what knowledge college students have on the Korean War. This study is important because the Korean War is often referred to as a “forgotten war” but is a significant event in American history, as well as an ongoing issue in today’s world. Investigation into what college students know and believe about the Korean War, as well as, where and when they learned this information, is critical in evaluating and reforming how the Korean War is taught in US schools. I designed a survey using Google Forms, and gathered results …

For 20+ years in Savannah, Georgia, Parent University has successfully enhanced the ability of families to create an environment in which learning thrives for both children and parents. When the pandemic closed schools and disrupted normal programming, Parent University immediately pivoted to online programming to continue connecting families with relevant education, resources and support throughout this time of need. The pandemic also exposed a huge gap in technology and education. Therefore, Parent University is working to close that gap with our new Tech College at Parent University.

The Critical Need For Mental Health Education To Be Mandated In New Mexico's Public Schools, Bonnie L. Murphy
Shared Knowledge Conference
Based on a review of research and best practices in mental health awareness and skills, this inquiry project argues for state legislative policies that would require mental health awareness and skills in the K-12 curriculum. Mental health affects individual accomplishments in every stage of people’s lives beginning in early childhood and throughout the life cycle. Prevention and treatment of mental illness plays a key role in the ability of an individual to cope with loss and develop resiliency and perseverance in challenging times and to make better decisions that improve the individual’s life and the lives of those around them. …

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
From Head to Head or Heads Together? offers an interactive workshop sharing effective evidence-based pedagogical approaches to Information Literacy (IL) in the early years, particularly in redressing disadvantage. IL skills are 21st Century skills needed by children and families to ensure inequities are challenged. Being able to find, evaluate and apply information for personal benefit is a key attribute in today's knowledge economy. IL goes beyond developing functional skills to creating attributes that enable lifelong learning. However, simply having access to digital technologies and online resources does not always equate to developing these attributes.

Rethinking Child Behaviour As A Neurophysiological Phenomenon, Angie M. Rosati Ms
ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
How can recent findings from the field of neuroscience regarding the neurophysiological roots of child behaviour be leveraged to inform our efforts to promote emotionally supportive relationships and ultimately student learning in the early years? First, we might train early educators to utilize these neurophysiological findings to rethink child behavior, a key variable in the student-teacher relationship. Second, we might train educators to rethink the importance of emotionally supportive relationships from this same neurophysiological lens. The need to rethink child behavior and student teacher relationships is more critical now than ever before. The rise in educator reported challenging behavior and educator …

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
The aim of this poster is to present a children’s story book on thinking. Specifically, through the adventures of Tita and Toto on earth, the author aspires to analyze what thinking is all about. At the same time, this story book uncovers the complexity of the Visible Thinking approach as it explains in simple words how certain conceptions of thinking can be implemented in real life situations. The ultimate goal of the project is to enhance people’s understanding how to apply a variety of thinking tools in multiple contexts.
Privileged Leadership: Teaching English Learners With Fixed Mindsets, Alexandra Lituchy
Privileged Leadership: Teaching English Learners With Fixed Mindsets, Alexandra Lituchy
Lesley University Community of Scholars Day
Research was conducted over a hundred hours at a nearby public school to observe the growth or fixed mindset language of English learners as compared to native English speakers in the second grade. Observations were also made of the English learner’s teacher’s mindset language. Existing research proves that any student with a fixed mindset have poorer academic performances. Yet, very little research has been done on if the same is true for English learners specifically. Based on the research conducted, English learners are more likely to use fixed mindset language than native English speakers. English learners also demonstrate a fixed …
