Among the students served by the ISU Writing Center are the university's English as a Second Language (ESL) students. Authoring System For Courseware Development: What Should Beginners Look For?, Carol Chapelle, Joan Jamieson

This paper is an introduction to courseware authoring systems, which are defined as software devised for an instructional environment that simplifies courseware development. The process of courseware authoring is described as consisting of two basic elements: computer and lesson. These two elements are further subdivided and the use of authoring systems to simplify each of these subcomponents is described. Suggestions are made for educators who are considering authoring systems to be used to develop courseware.

The major purpose of this study was to examine historically black colleges and universities with international linkages and those without international linkages and their involvement in training international students. An Education, Employment And Health Needs Assessment Of Southeast Asian Refugee Women Living In Central Iowa , Gita Dhawan

One hundred and fifty Southeast Asian refugee living in Des Moines metropolitan area were interviewed regarding their felt needs in the areas of education, employment and health. The five ethnic backgrounds represented in the study were Vietnamese, Laotians, Hmong, Tai Dam and the Cambodians. English language instruction emerged as the most desired need as expressed by these women. Education and employment emerged as the second most felt needs of the women. Lack of transportation ranked fourth, and, (better) medical services ranked as fifth most significant need as expressed by these women.
