Six Volleyball Skill Tests As A Predictor Of Game Performance, Donetta J. Cothran Jul 1992

Six Volleyball Skill Tests As A Predictor Of Game Performance, Donetta J. Cothran

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of six selected volleyball skill tests to actual volleyball game performance. The six skill test items were administered to 64 subjects, who were all members of a college level introductory volleyball course. Based on the ratings of a panel of experts, subjects were rated during game play as good, average, or poor performers.

The stepwise discriminant analysis was used to analyze the relationship between skill tests and game performance. Four of the six skill tests were identified as significantly contributing to group membership. These tests, in order of the magnitude …

Pressure Basketball And The Speed Game: A Comprehensive Coaching Philosophy, Lanny Vaneman

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There has been in the past, and likely will continue to be, an obvious lack of printed material dealing with the discipline of basketball. The wide spectrum of everything that is to be taught, as well as how it is to be introduced (in the writer’s opinion) has been neglected. Rather than focusing on one phase or a limited number of areas of interest, this work attempts to serve as a comprehensive basketball coaching manual for a beginning mentor. It should also serve well for one who wishes to reevaluate or revise his coaching philosophy. Careful thought has been given …

A Comparison Of Traditional Grass-Twist Backstops To One Of Corrugated Cardboard Design Use On Indoor Ranges, Charles T. Crume Jr. Apr 1979

A Comparison Of Traditional Grass-Twist Backstops To One Of Corrugated Cardboard Design Use On Indoor Ranges, Charles T. Crume Jr.

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study presents the results of a comparison of traditional grass-twist backstops frequently used on indoor ranges with one of corrugated cardboard design. The findings indicate that the corrugated cardboard design is substantially superior.

The four factors selected for testing were:

  1. Arrow pass-through levels and subsequent arrow repair costs
  2. Arrow penetration levels, tested over several distances and using several bow weights
  3. Arrow-stopping potential with beginning and inexperienced archers
  4. Storage

Testing showed the first three factors supporting the corrugated cardboard design. The last factor, storage, was found to be about equally supportive of both designs.

Several recommendations are made. These recommendations …

Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune Aug 1977

Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There was a need to determine the recreation needs of girls in the pre-adolescent age range of nine through fourteen years old so that municipal recreation professionals may program activities to meet the desires of this specific population. In order to do this, a testing instrument was developed. The test, a recreation preference schedule, used closed questions exclusively, unlike many of the available checklist surveys. The recreation preference schedule was modeled after the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule that was used in counseling. The new test, containing one hundred questions, utilized ten recreation activity categories. It was checked for reliability and …

Effects Of Different Levels Of Precision Of Knowledge Of Results On The Acquisition Of A Motor Skill, Wenda D. Johnson May 1975

Effects Of Different Levels Of Precision Of Knowledge Of Results On The Acquisition Of A Motor Skill, Wenda D. Johnson

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Students enrolled in two beginning bowling classes received the same basic instruction on bowling techniques, but practiced under two different levels of precision of knowledge of results (KOR). The experimental group practiced by rolling at a full set of ten bowling pins with each ball (precise KOR). The control group practiced by shadow bowling (general KOR). There were no significant differences between groups in the effects of the two practice conditions upon the acquisition skills. There were no significant groups by tests interaction either. There was, however, a significant trials effect across groups. It was concluded that although both practice …

The Desirability And Feasibility Of Intercollegiate Sports For College Women, Leigh F. Kieffer

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The primary purpose of this study is to examine the present programs of physical education in Kentucky colleges; to determine the degree to which they meet the competitive sports needs of college women; and to explore the possibilities for enriching the program and to make recommendations for correcting inadequacies.

In considering the inclusion of a program of intercollegiate sports competition for college women, three questions are basic. First, what criteria should be used for evaluating present programs and determining the developing of an intercollegiate program for women? Second, what is the status of Kentucky colleges with regard to these pertinent …

The Effectiveness Of Using Increased Increment Track And Field Scoring Tables With Female University Physical Education Students, Douglas Coghlan

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There were two purposes involved in this study. The first objective was to construct increased increment scoring tables for selected track and field events based on the achievement of female physical education students at Rhodes University, South Africa, using the initial performances recorded by the students in each event during the years 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1964, 1965 and 1966. Secondly, the tables were used to test the effectiveness of the increased increment principle in predicting the improvement of the students in subsequent trials during the same period.
