The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 is the seventh cycle of PISA since it was first conducted in 2000 and measures students’ skills in the core areas of reading literacy, mathematical literacy and scientific literacy. Since PISA 2012, financial literacy has been included as an additional optional assessment that accompanies the core assessments. In Australia, the financial literacy assessment is funded by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. An abbreviated version of this paper was presented at the X Conference of the Iberoamerican Society on the History of Latin American Education, held in Salamanca, Spain in July 2012. The paper discusses the efforts of the Society of Jesus and the City Council of Salvador, the capital of the northeastern state of Bahia, to elevate the status of the College of Bahia to that of a university. Na segunda metade do século dezoito, foi transplantado para o Brasil um paradigma que focalizava no processo da investigação científico no ensino das Ciências Naturais na escola secundária. O paradigma teve origem nos Estados Unidos em resposta às criticas internas referentes ao ensino secundário e aos acontecimentos internacionais.
