In recent decades, accreditation standards have required teacher education programs to establish and implement dispositions that define and assess the demonstration of affective beliefs and values integrated within the teacher preparation process.  The 2015 publication of the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) sought to unify the application and assessment of dispositions relating to integrity and social responsibility.  In response, Educational Testing Service (ETS) developed an online program, ProEthica, to challenge individual teacher candidates and school leaders to explore potential-risk scenarios in an effort to produce self-reflection when making ethical decisions.  ProEthica is currently being embraced as a …

BACKGROUND: Increasing children's active travel to school may be 1 strategy for addressing the growing prevalence of obesity among school age children. Using the School Travel Survey, we examined South Carolina school district leaders' perceptions of factors that influence elementary and middle school students walking to school. METHODS: Frequency distributions and chi-square tests were used to analyze the survey responses; open-ended questions were reviewed qualitatively for recurring topics and themes. RESULTS: School and district leaders (N = 314) most often reported street crossing safety (54.0%) and number of sidewalks (54.0%) as priority factors that should be addressed to increase students' …

This thesis describes a research study that investigated associations between teachers' perceptions of principals' interpersonal behaviour and psychosocial environments of secondary schools in Australia. In the past 25 years, much attention has been given to the development and use of instruments to assess the qualities of the classroom and school environment from the perspectives of students and teachers. A new instrument (the Principal Interaction Questionnaire) was developed and validated to measure principals' interpersonal behaviour as perceived by their teachers.
