Cultural Diversity In Student Ministry Leadership, Steven Zhou Mar 2017

Cultural Diversity In Student Ministry Leadership, Steven Zhou

Seaver College Research And Scholarly Achievement Symposium

In an attempt to contribute to how ministries and Christian academia is addressing issues of diversity, I am conducting a study to analyze correlations between ethnicity and styles/values of leadership. The goal is to uncover whether or not a particular ethnicity generally prefers one style of leadership over another. Past research on the subject has already seen that, in the business world, certain practices work better than others. For example, those from an Asian culture are more likely to prefer formality and authority as opposed to the collaborative and relationship-oriented style of leadership found in America. I will contribute to …

A Quantitative Analysis Of A Critical Pedagogy In Catholic Secondary School Religious Studies Teachers In The San Francisco Bay Area, Alex Porter Macmillan Jan 2017

A Quantitative Analysis Of A Critical Pedagogy In Catholic Secondary School Religious Studies Teachers In The San Francisco Bay Area, Alex Porter Macmillan

Doctoral Dissertations

Scholarship has indicated that Catholic, secondary school religion teachers in the United States are often not adequately prepared pedagogically and theologically (Aldana, 2015; Ramey, 2014; Schroeder, 2013; Cook and Hudson, 2006; Cook, 2001, 2000; Lund 1997). Rossiter (2011, 2010, 2007) and Crawford and Rossiter (2006) described aspects of a pedagogy that can be summarized as “Critical Interpretation and Evaluation of Culture” (Rossiter, 2011), where a number of different criteria and examples are described that can serve as a relevant pedagogy for religious education.

In a researcher designed, online, cross-sectional survey, 18 questions from relevant literature using both binary “yes / …

Scriptural Foundations For Academic Disciplines: A Biblical Theme Approach, Michael E. Cafferky

This article presents the thesis that major themes of the Bible can form the biblical foundation for academic disciplines as taught in Christian primary schools, secondary schools and undergraduate and graduate studies in higher education. The Bible is not a comprehensive encyclopedia of knowledge; however, its perspective offers a deeper theological and philosophical basis for any academic discipline.

The Pretence Of Western Religion And Education In Nigeria: A Sociological Perspective., E. Okpilike Jul 2010

The Pretence Of Western Religion And Education In Nigeria: A Sociological Perspective., E. Okpilike

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal

The main aim of the missionary education was to reach Christianity and thus convert all those who came within the four walls of the mission house. The British colonial Missions set up norms of religious education that progressively colonized the converts. Religious education primarily meant carrying out civic duties which enabled Nigerians to adopt the Western culture at the expense of their own. Prior to the coming of Western religions and education, Nigerians were very religious and also functional in their education. They acknowledged the presence of God in whatever they did. Their religion therefore cut across their entire lives …

Dangerous Liaisons: Non-Western Religious Minority Groups And American Public Education, Steve Charbonneau Jan 2010

Dangerous Liaisons: Non-Western Religious Minority Groups And American Public Education, Steve Charbonneau

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal

Public education and so many institutions charged with serving the public are struggling to serve cultural minority groups who see the world and interact with it in ways quite foreign to mainstream America. A lack of knowledge, on the part of public institutions, has led to the further alienation of certain minority subgroups and has made the public institutions that serve them ineffective. Increasing institutional knowledge of cultural minority groups is one of the critical steps American pubic educators must take towards cultural competency (Hoffman, 2004).

Personal Faith And Public Religious Neutrality: A Brief History Of The Separation Of Church And State For School Leaders, Peter Miller, Engel Max Apr 2008

Personal Faith And Public Religious Neutrality: A Brief History Of The Separation Of Church And State For School Leaders, Peter Miller, Engel Max

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal

We are often told “keep the faith” or “have faith” but rarely are we told what that means. Psychologist and educational philosopher Sharon Daloz Parks states that faith is the way we make meaning from our life’s experiences: faith results when “human beings… compose a sense of the ultimate reality and then stake [their] lives on that sense of things” (Parks, 2000, p. 20). Faith is both a dynamic force as well as a stabilizing and grounding entity; it organizes how the world is perceived, acted upon, and interpreted; faith is not synonymous with religion, belief, or spirituality. Obviously something …

Spiritual Dimension In Educational Leadership, Rosalina Ruiz Jan 2005

Spiritual Dimension In Educational Leadership, Rosalina Ruiz

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Spirit-filled experiences have been customarily silent in the discourse of education. This area has been misunderstood and solely left to the religious arena to discover its development creating compartmentalized concepts and depriving other organizational systems from implementing its rich resourcefulness. This study seeks to provide ontological and epistemological knowledge to uncover and understand the power of the spiritual dimension in the life of successful educational leaders. By conceptualizing spirituality in educational leadership, this qualitative study seeks to explore successful educational leaders' use of spirituality to strengthen their effectiveness as it relates to school and their performance. Based on the major …
