Goats, Crayons And Bananas – Creative Ways To Fight Student Stress, Conny Liegl
Goats, Crayons And Bananas – Creative Ways To Fight Student Stress, Conny Liegl
Conny Liegl
More than 80% of US college students report feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, almost half of whom describe their academic experience as traumatic or very difficult to handle. Stress, sleep difficulties and anxiety are just some of the symptoms that manifest in college students. To help students react to external and internal stressors, California Polytechnic State University’s Robert E. Kennedy Library initiated a program to support students during the most stressful times of the academic quarter. With …

Faculty/Staff Technology Support Initiative: Next Engine 3d Scanner, Kim Myers
Kim Myers
The Next Engine 3D Scanner would enhance and promote the use of the Makerbot Replicator 3D Printer that has recently been purchased for use by students and faculty who wish to explore this innovative technology and incorporate it into the curriculum. The scanner increases the 3D printer’s usefulness by allowing existing objects to be scanned and printed, rather than just designed from scratch. The MultiDrive Scanning Platform further automates and increases ease of use of the process. The upgraded software increases the speed and ease of the scanning process. With creator’s consent, object plans can then be added to the …

Merced College has a number of courses being taught on line and that the number continues to grow. The college is currently implementing online courses that meet the requirements of California SB520, passed in May of 2013, requiring all California students to have access to online classes at any California community college. This applies only if the classes they need are not available at their home institution. Added to this is the requirement from the accrediting agency for California Community Colleges that all students, both distance and face-to-face have equal access to library resources. Partnership Between Library And Graduate School For Electronic Theses And Dissertations, Adrian K. Ho
Adrian K. Ho
This presentation describes how the library and the Graduate School at the University of Kentucky collaborated to streamline the thesis and dissertation submission process. The outcome was that the Graduate School implemented an electronic thesis and dissertation mandate in Fall 2013 and students now submit their theses or dissertations directly to the institutional repository, which enables immediate free online access to their research.

Through A Critical Sociocultural Lens: Parents’ Perspectives Of An Early Childhood Program In Guatemala, Yaëlle Stempfelet
Through A Critical Sociocultural Lens: Parents’ Perspectives Of An Early Childhood Program In Guatemala, Yaëlle Stempfelet
Master's Capstone Projects
The present case study is on an Early Childhood program in Guatemala based on participant parents’ feedback. The Early Childhood program is non-formal, focuses on emergent literacy and nutrition, and takes place in a community-run library in a poor, semi-rural town in the mountainous regions of Quiche, Guatemala. The library was set up by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works in Guatemala as well as another neighboring country.
Using a critical sociocultural lens, this study assumes that the parents’ perceptions reflect the state of the program and that involving their feedback through this research will ultimately help to bolster the …

Library Scholarship
This white paper presents the progression and the processes of the New York Collaborative Curriculum Revision Project (CCRP), a collaborative of high school teachers, college faculty, and librarians, formed to build upon the new Common Core State Standards designed to help students develop and become more adept at reading critically, conducting rigorous research, and being better prepared for postsecondary success. This paper presents CCRP as a model to be replicated, modified and strengthened. The DOE/CUNY Library Collaborative is central to the development of the model and shares its successes and hard-learned lessons in its steps to recruit, engage, and facilitate …

The Australian government Office for Learning and Teaching's (OLT) Resource Library is a key means of disseminating the outcomes from projects funded by itself and its predecessor organisations, the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) and the Carrick Institute. In order to apply the recommendations and resources emanating from these projects, it is vital that educators and other stakeholders are aware of, and effectively able to use, the Resource Library. Based on anecdotal evidence indicating a lack of awareness of the Resource Library and problems with consistently being able to search for and retrieve relevant resources from the database, the …
