Providing a safe and orderly school environment for students to learn is of paramount importance to school administrators, teachers, students, and the general public; however, the learning process should not be compromised while trying to maintain such an environment. Differences In Student Misbehavior After Completing In-School Suspension Between Rural High School And Suburban High School Students, Martin Ervind Welch

This study investigated the differences that exist in rural and suburban high school student misbehavior after completing in-school suspension (ISS) in Alabama's Mobile County Public School System. The independent variables of rural or suburban, gender, and ethnicity were used to determine the differences of the various groups. The archival discipline data of students assigned to ISS during the 2008-2009 school year were analyzed. Out of the 821 students assigned to ISS, 146 (17.8%) were not referred to the office again during the school year. There was a statistically significant relationship between rural or suburban and office referral after attending ISS. …

This study was conducted to explore the impact of teacher ideology on student performance. A definition of teacher ideology was drawn from the pupil control ideology, PCI, created by Willower, Eidell and Hoy (1967). Research concerned with teacher ideology has suggested that there is a definite difference between the custodial ideology and the humanistic ideology (Gaffney, 1997). In particular, the custodial teacher views rules and regulations as a priority, while the humanistic teacher views the student as the priority. Teachers’ Perceptions Of The In-School Suspension Program At Centerville High School, Joshua Vaccar

This qualitative study provides teacher perceptions of the in-school suspension (ISS) program at Centerville High School. The study was based on semi-structured interviews of fifteen individuals, representing a sample of teachers in the math and science departments. Interview questions focused on three constructs: benefits, limitations, and suggestions for improvement. Overall, the results show that the teachers have found the ISS program to be an effective and necessary tool to help with classroom management. However, teachers have also reported areas of concern, such as, efficiency and functionality of the program. Other benefits, limitations and areas for improvement were also noted. These …
