An Assessment Of Technology Classroom Environments In Chinese Universities, Jiexiu Li

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of graduate classroom environments as perceived by the graduate students and faculty in technology courses, at Chinese universities. Relationships between the different dimensions of the social environment of the graduate technology classrooms were examined. The Adult Classroom Environment Scale (ACES) was used to measure the actual and ideal classroom environments on seven dimensions. The research was conducted during Fall 1998. Participants in this study included 317 graduate students and 8 teachers in 8 classes from 6 universities in Beijing, China. The results of data analysis showed that there were significant …

More than 280 teachers and staff of the Maine Adult Education System will meet at the University of Maine July 26-30 for the 1999 Maine Adult Education Summer Institute. The weeklong professional development program will offer updates and workshops on topics ranging from curriculum development and assessment strategies to building partnerships with business and providing vocational programs for prison inmates.

To meet the challenges of the next century, continuing higher education is recreating itself to assume position of campus-wide leadership. Traditional continuing education units that were simply the university's off-campus course providers are using their organizational flexibility to take on innovative and expanded roles that include for-profit distance learning centers, international educational partnerships, welfare-to-work initiatives, and post-baccalaureate programs for the changing workforce. While maintaining the academy's high standards of scholarship and research, continuing education is also being asked to become a lead voice in conceiving the new academy and in linking the university to the demands of society.
