Recently, childhood overweight and obesity has reached epidemic proportions. The co-morbidities associated with adult obesity are now being seen in the pediatric population; therefore, there is a call for preventative efforts. A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in conjunction with an active lifestyle discourages the presence of obesity. Currently, most childhood obesity prevention efforts have taken place in the school setting and have only had short-term success. problems due to unhealthy eating and physical inactivity has become a huge concern. In study after study, the residents in the state of Alabama have ranked high in such dubious categories as obesity, diabetes, and lack of exercise (Trust for America's Health, 2008). If you are a parent, guardian or child-care provider, witnessing children fighting is a common occurrence. Fighting or aggressive behavior can occur in various forms, whether it is slapping, grabbing, screaming, pinching, kicking, spitting, biting, threatening, teasing or a variety of other actions.

Verbal abuse finally is being recognized as a form of domestic violence and as the behavior that usually precedes physical violence. Bald Eagles Wintering Along The Des Moines River, Iowa, Neil Sabine

Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS

Distribution, habitat use, and foraging behavior of Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) wintering in southeast Iowa were studied in January - March 1990 and November 1990 - March 1991. Eagles were seen from November through March with the highest numbers in January and February. Adults had shorter winter residence times than immatures and they appeared to be less active during the day. Eagles concentrated their foraging efforts along certain river segments where they fed exclusively on fish. Timber harvesting along the river reduced eagle use and is considered to be the most serious threat to sustaining eagle use of the area. A roost ...
