Cooperative Learning As An Instructional Approach For Promoting Language Achievement In English Language Learners, Brittany Marie Rechtin

This research investigates the effectiveness of Cooperative Learning (CL) on the language achievement of English Language Learners (ELLs) by comparing it to traditional, individualistic and/or competitive approaches to learning. It also aims to identify the characteristics of effective CL methods. The research found that CL positively impacts language achievement across various dimensions of language, countries, and grade levels. Eight CL methods were identified as being the most empirically validated, all of which were found to have a positive impact on student achievement. Also identified were certain characteristics that could improve a CL method’s efficacy. These characteristics were using CL methods …

The purpose of the study was to analyze the racial achievement gap between high schools that had a one-to-one technology program and schools without this program. Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment reading and math data were collected on 20 Minnesota high schools, 10 with a one-to-one program and 10 without for the 2016-2018 school years. Along with math and reading proficiency data for the 20 schools, achievement gaps were calculated for each school and averaged for each group of schools for the three years studied. This qualitative study explores the critical consciousness development of students enrolled in a liberal arts institution. Two hundred seventy-seven students at Bethel University completed the Critical Consciousness Scale (Diemer, Rapa, Park, & Perry, 2017) and Measure of Adolescent Critical Consciousness (McWhiter & McWhirter, 2016). Readability formulas are widely used to analyze educational texts; however, the use of these formulas has been widely criticized. Prominent among these criticisms are that classic readability formulas calculate readability using only sentence length and word length, and that writers should not directly consider readability formula factors such as word and sentence length when creating texts. Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) struggle academically and appear to have lower levels of academic motivation than their peers. This paper reviews the literature and evidence proving that lower academic motivation is associated with ADHD. The causes of the motivational deficits are both behavioral and explained by neurological differences in the brain. Research shows that children with ADHD lack the ability to inhibit their own reactionary behaviors and allow for executive functions to consider all the information available to make good decisions. The research question was: What impact does participation in organized extracurricular activities have on the academic outcomes of American high school students?
